Is ANYTHING Worth Fighting For?

Real Estate Investor · OH · Member since 2008 · 4k+ posts · 1k+ votes

I've been wondering lately if the American people would rise up and fight for ANYTHING? My personal opinion is that the American people would give up every single right they have (including their property) and become virtual slaves to a socialist/communist/fascist government without any fight whatsoever (or has that ship already sailed).

Is there ANYTHING that YOU would fight for? Anything at all?

For full disclosure, I did not read the entire thread..... Politics gets boring. Too many viewpoints, not much in the way of facts

here are some facts

As a young man I served in the USMC. I was an infantryman in Desert Storm. We were ordered to go out and do terriable things to young men just like ourselves, it was our duty. We all took the oath. We all wanted to be there.

In the name of my wife and children, I would do much worse to any involved, with a smile on my face......

I know a Vietnam jarhead, he was with 1/9, the walking dead. Those guys know what a bad day really is.

We spoke about Mrs Neopalatiano and her singleing out of Vet's as a threat.

His comment was. " that is the only person in DC that understands what a threat is", LOL

We are blessd as a country. Go to the Westbank and ask this question.

    Come on, Tim...

Are you trying to prove something by providing a single data point that supports your claim?

Are we now allowed to assume one data point is evidence of a truth?

Okay, what happened with my taxes this year? They went down. Therefore, I guess it's now safe to assume that Obama is lowering taxes.

What, you don't buy it? I guess there is a flaw in the logic somewhere...

Look, I never said that EVERY person is denied their due process (or habeas corpus, in your example), so providing a single example really serves no purpose? What I said is that the government is taking away our rights. Since you brought up Habeas Corpus, here is an example of the government infringing:

    http://www.democracynow.org/2007/2/2/the_case_of_ali_al_marri

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ali_Saleh_Kahlah_al-Marri

Even denying the Constitutional rights of a single legal resident of this country should be enough to scare the crap out of us!

Btw Tim - After rereading, I think this post came across a lot more obnoxious than I intended...I apologize if it came across that way...I should be striving for a more civilized debate...I'm not trying to be a jerk! :)

imo the only reason why Obama and the media paint the economy like an insurmountable obstacle is because the fear and confusion over the uneducated masses is good for political power and control. it's an emotional, illogical ploy. and since liberal policy caused the crisis in the first place he basically has to lie to cover up lies when it comes to the economy.

I wrote the white house 2 letters today:

I would be a lot more interested in investing in USA if USA would stop spending, pay off the national debt, and focus on actual wealth creation, not merely moving existing resources around.

What percentage of the national debt will Obama have paid off by the end of his first term?

Yes Mike, I would and do fight. I fight for the principles of this country, that anyone can be anything they want if they work hard and have the guts to take risks, and against big government that want their hands in any and everything. The nationalization and government ownership of the car industry (and private businesses), the singling out of a group of individual citizens for punitive taxation, healthcare reform, the value added tax etc, etc are just a few of the most current examples.

I fight against any and all limitations set by the government that promote mediocrity, the status quo, irresponsibility and the message that the government will solve all my problems.

How do I fight, not violently, but with letters to my representatives, educating others to current events, and by reading and posting on forums like this one that promote innovation, creative, free speech, and the bettering of oneself.

Well, providing a single data point puts me ahead of you by a single data point.

Since you bring up the Qatar citizen living in Illinois who was arrested on charges of being part of an Al Qaeda sleeper cell - he pled guilty didn't he?

Let's see what the sites you posted say:

"In 2002, Ali was charged with making false statements to the FBI and to financial institutions, identity fraud, and credit card fraud.[2] Al-Marri was alleged to be in possession of more than 1750 credit card numbers, along with the names of the account holders, none of whom were Al-Marri. He was also alleged to be in possession of falsified identification documents. Additionally, he was alleged to have used a Qwest calling card to call a number in Dubai linked to the reputed al-Qaeda financier Mustafa al-Hawsawi. After searching al-Marri's computer, folders were found labeled "jihad arena" and "chem," which (according to the government) contained information on hydrogen cyanide, a poisonous gas produced in large quantities by several industrial processes in the U.S. and listed amongst chemical warfare agents that cause general poisoning,[6] along with lectures by Osama bin Laden and links to Web sites related to weaponry and satellite equipment.[7]"

And you have a problem with this guy being imprisoned?

    Let's examine this further:

"Al-Marri was released from detention by the Secretary of Defense on March 10, 2009 and was served an arrest warrant the same morning at the Charleston naval brig. He was immediately taken into custody by the U.S. Marshals Service."

So, the Qatar citizen who pled guilty to being part of an Al Qaeda terror cell who was jailed during the Bush administration - was kept in custody under the Obama adminstration.

Two administrations of differing parties and rhetoric are keeping this guy behind bars. I don't understand why you seem to have a problem with it and what your point is.

The question is, do I have a problem with this guy being imprisoned for 5 years without access to legal representation or due process. And the answer is YES, YES, YES, YES, YES, YES!!!!!!!!!

I have a problem with it because it goes against our Constitution. It goes against one of the the foundational concepts of due process on which this country was built.

I find it much more surprising that you don't have a problem with it! How many more Constitutional rights would need to be taken away before you did have a problem with it?

Or do you think that some Constitutional rights are more important than others? I guess for some reason this one isn't a big deal?

    Let's examine this further:

    Great, thank you...

Again, YES, YES, YES, YES, YES!!!!!!

Obama realized that Bush had violated the Constitution and corrected the situation! The guy was released, taken back into custody, and allowed access to legal representation.

In other words, Bush took away this guy's Constitutional rights, and Obama restored them.

Thank you for pointing this out.

I'm not saying that Obama is doing the right things, in general, but when it comes to this, he absolutely did the right thing.

It doesn't matter if the guy pleaded guilty or not guilty and it doesn't matter if he was found guilty or not guilty. It also doesn't matter what he was accused of.

That's the beauty of living in the United States. You are allowed due process, and are assured your Constitutional rights, regardless of what crimes you might be accused of.

This is what our country was founded upon...I'm not sure why you are arguing against it instead of embracing it, and thanking whatever god you might believe in that you have these amazing, wonderful, fantastic things call rights under this absolutely awesome document called the Constitution.

Please don't help the government take these rights away, and please don't turn your back when they do.

Alright, Grants Pass is on the map! I love Dutch Bros.

Here is my take on the whole thing as far as politics go:

Democrats and Republicans these days are both Liberal (I think someone already mentioned that) and neither party has a clue or the desire to SOLVE the problems we face because nobody wants things to get worse on their watch. Instead, they try to patch the problem and pass it on to the next guy while in reality the problem gets bigger and bigger.

All of that is out of my control, all I can do is create wealth for my family and be prepared for the worst. I would not be surprised if these knuckleheads cause the dollar to collapse from all this $$ printing.

As is a majority of the population of this country.

And there's nothing inherently wrong with having liberal beliefs (or any beliefs, for that matter).

So, in a representative form of government, if the population is mostly liberal, it's probably a good thing that the government is mostly liberal.

As far as having a government that just plain does stupid things, that's not a good thing...but we've seen that with both parties for many years now, so we really shouldn't be surprised... :)

    J Scott,

I know that Obama got elected and all but I completely disagree with your comment that most of the country is liberal. If people knew exactly how liberal that guy was I don't think he would have gotten elected.

I can't remember the % of Pro-Life voters that voted for Obama, (lots of whom regret voting for him) but for the most part anyone that is Pro-Life is not going to have liberal beliefs.

On top of that, gun ownership is spreading like a southern california wild fire and I don't think Liberal's are the ones going out and buying guns and ammo.

I think the country is in the middle or perhaps more conservative, meanwhile the politicians keep going farther and farther left. If you talk to people about issues only without saying anything about a political party you'll find that most people will agree with a conservative point of view. I tested some liberal friends with exactly that and they agreed with almost every conservative idea we talked about yet they voted for Obama. Go figure.

Most people in this country listen to the media and do not do their own research to figure out what is really going on, if they did they would have figured out that we don't really know anything about Obama, but that's another issue.

Can you provide any supporting evidence to your statement that most pro-lifers are conservative in their other beliefs? I can't find any statistical data, so I'm curious where your idea that "most" are conservative comes from.

Btw, all my research has indicated that up until a couple decades ago, nearly all left-leaning women were pro-life, and even now, many, many people who claim to be liberal in other aspects of their political belief are pro-life.

Personally, I know lots of people who are pro-life and who are tremendously liberal when it comes to social issues, fiscal policy, gun control, etc. Then again, I'm not going to argue it's true just because I know a lot of people like that. I don't have the data, so I won't make the assertion.

Do you have the data to support your assertion?

And, can you provide any supporting data to your statement that most pro-lifers who voted for Obama now regret that decision?

On top of that, gun ownership is spreading like a southern california wild fire and I don't think Liberal's are the ones going out and buying guns and ammo.

Hmmm...according to my research, less than 1/2 of a percent of the eligible population has bought their first gun since Obama was elected (certainly, many gun owners have bought additional guns, but that's not the point of your comment).

Do you have any evidence to support your claim that gun ownership is spreading like crazy? Or any statistical data to support that my .5% number is off?

I tested some liberal friends with exactly that and they agreed with almost every conservative idea we talked about yet they voted for Obama. Go figure.

I'm just not sure your random sample of a couple friends is statistically significant. Actually, I'm quite positive it's not.

So, again, please provide some *real* data that supports your assertion.

Most people in this country listen to the media and do not do their own research to figure out what is really going on

I absolutely 100% agree, and until you can provide some data to support some of the things you said above, I'm going to assume that you are part of this group.

I find it ridiculous that people throw around statements as if they're fact without doing any research to be able to provide statistical evidence. I guess they believe that if they say it confidently enough, others won't question them.

I, on the other hand, like to question, and like to see data to support random assertions.

ok let me deal with this one at a time. I am a woman. remember that. I am intelligent, not stupid. can we please keep the discussions logical and factual and respectful.

Obama's actions are not justified just because others have done the same thing. is that clear? imo this is an American problem and a media problem...good luck with it. I am not American.

the stock markets crashed worldwide because of the lack of regulation of lending practices in the housing market that was set up about 10 years ago by Clinton (um, liberal), money was lent to people for housing who could not afford to pay it back, and mortgages were sold sliced diced and priced on worldwide stock markets as securities backed by property assets... the assumption was that housing prices would defy gravity and forever rise and the market would forever cooperate. if the Liberals (or for that matter the masses) read the "Economics in One Lesson" book the current Liberal monetary policies would cease to exist because they are illogical and do not work. would you lend money to people who can't pay it back? you can thank the bankers and Clinton for the current worldwide economic crisis.

Oh really? Tell me what the Supreme court decision of Johnson vs. Eisentrager established concerning Judicial court process and resident aliens during a time of war. Constitutional rights, especially those of resident aliens, are heavily affected by Supreme court decisions. Crazy, I know.

Clinging to guns, religion (and lately youtube) is an all time winning strategy nothing short of koresh-esque - for a decreasing minority. And thus faux news was established.

It's a good thing some are intelligent, not stupid (as previously stated). Other than that, keep them arguments coming, it's pure entertainment!
