Who is your favorite Olympic star, your favorite sport? I caught the cycling this morning for a big surprise with the US taking 4th. Women's Volleyball just nipped past Korea, rated #2 behind the US, guess that's the way it went down too. Anyone know what happened in boxing?

Steven Hamilton II, I agree, there is something about the womens beach volleyball that keeps me interested....LOL
Now watching the womens cycling! Temps in the 50s, started in the rain with stiff winds, but the sun is out now. Parts of the roadway holding water, it's messy!
I'm rooting for USA, 1,2&3, but if that can't be I'm hopping that Nichole Cooke of Great Britian does it again, she is an awsome rider holfing more world titles than any female. Kristy Armstrong is the leader now.....go USA!
Looking forward to seeing the mens track and field events as well and more swimming.
I guess our favorites are those sports we do (or did). Naturally....

Bill Gulley I posted a thread on the Olympics a few minutes ago, hadn't seen yours! We're rooting for the Women's Soccer team, there's a girl on there, Megan Rapinoe that went to high school with our son.
The USA better get with it, we are in 3rd position as far as medals... and China is 1st.... not good!

Don't worry about the medal count, it ain't over till it's over as they say....
There are several on the USA Team from this area, but didn't catch the names on the news and I don't know any of them.....I don't think.
Guess my favorite is cycling as that is what I excelled at the best, then track, wrestling and swimming as individual sports. I went with the cycling team to the Pan-Am Games in Winnipeg as a nationally ranked junior in the ABA. After I got married I couldn't keep it up and sold my bike and then got a letter inviting me to the Denver tryouts for the Olympics and couldn't go. That is the biggest regret of my life, even knowing that I wouldn't have made the podium then. My team mate John Howard went and he didn't place and could out sprint me 8 out of 10 times regardless of how far we rode! In those days there was very little to no corporate support for cycling and I was starting a family. Now you know my competitive nature...... GO USA!

I had no idea water polo was such an endurance sport, didn't even consider a real sport in my book, but watching some of it, looks like those guys get a real workout! I didn't know they could not touch the bottom of the pool either, it's a penalty. Not like we played it in the backyard pool. They are serious players !

@ Bill Gulley How cool that you were that good in a sport!
What I hate is I clicked onto the tv schedule to find out when the next contest was, and there was a huge pic of the winner :/ Dang it. You'd think they'd realize if we're looking at the schedule it's so we can watch it, and would prefer not to know the winners beforehand.
Oh well.. I won't be doing that again, I'll use the one on the tv. So many sports, it's unbelievable. I like to watch soccer, basketball, volleyball, swimming and some of the gymastics. Those table tennis matches are crazy... why are those tables so small?
As for Megan Rapinoe, she's one of the best players on the team! Did you see where that Colombian hit one of the USA players in the eye and laid her out? Not to worry... our girl got up and went on to score!

Thanks Karen! All those participating are winners, everyone of them in my book. I'd think that most people don't have any idea of the level of training, determination and sacrafice required to get past the hump of being a good school athlete and get to a national level and then go beyond to the world stage. It's a constant mental and physical challenge for any perfectionist. It's a way of life for months and year after year. And that is really tuff for young people to do with school, work, peers and friends wanting them to do things with them, etc. They are all amazing people as well as athletes.
Just watched Volmer getting the GOLD. Schmidt Silver! This is another record setting games!!!!! :))
Now that you mentioned Megan, I believe I did see her play and win!
Not much forum activity now, guess everyone is reviewing appraisals or watching the games!

Bill Gulley I am monitoring this thread and my email goes to my phone, so whenever there's a post I see it right away...
You're right, those athletes all deserve praise, because they do all work so hard to get there, and make great personal sacrafice, yet only 3 in each sport get medals. But, what an experience for them. I just love when our athletes are up getting medals and the national anthem is playing.. really gives you a lot of pride. I think it's great for the country.
I also want to say, thank you for all your posts on here. You're always very well versed on subject matters, and give thought to posts, I appreciate that.

Actually, I'll rephrase my favorite sport, it would be the Triathlon, as I was also an accomplished runner and swimmer but the sport didn't exist formally when I was around. I was never interested in fencing, never had the opportunity, so the pentahlon was not for me. LOL
Kim Rhode, our Skeet Shooter 5 GOLD medals, more than any other woman in Olympic history!!!!!! WAY TO GO KIM!
And watching the sync diving, like watching one in a mirror! USA Silver!
And how about that Lochte guy, he is doing great too!

Bill Gulley I can't imagine what Triathletes must do to train, that would be so grueling; and take such discipline, as does running and swimming. As for all the events you listed, I watched them all. Loved them. I do think they should have had Michael Phelps either lead off or be the anchor in the relay. But, a silver is nothing to whine about! Those synchronized swimmers were great. Especially when the ones right after them were totally off on their timing. It's so amazing they are able to do those so perfectly as USA did!

S. Korea is playing Denmark in womens handball, I have never seen this game at all! Had no idea what the heck they were doing, looks like a combination of basketball in tactics and firing the ball in the goal. It's a fast game and looks rough, what would be a foul in BB seems what you're supposed to do, wrapping up your opponet, block and push off.....hmmm, looks like fun!

Gymnastics, Tennis, Swimming . . . all have been very exciting -- not to mention kayaking and all the volleyball. It has been a very fun olympics to watch!

Women's Basketball just tipped off between the USA and China!!!
Karen M., USA is in the lead over China in Golds and total medals, with more to come!
This always inspires me to do something and work out, LOL, my problem is my brain doesn't know I'm older and I have a set pace running or riding. When I swim I catch myself busting into my old backstroke pace, doesn't last long and I'm usually sore.....LOL

I'm really surprised they allowed that trackster to run, the disadvantage is obvious, but I also see some advanatges, but he certainly is inspirational!
Final 114 to 66, I thought it was going to be much closer from all the hipe! USA does it again! That also tied the highest score in WB in the games. Taurasi was fantastic!!!!!

I'm watching the day coverage on MSNBC and evenings on NBC, the only games in town. Now, syncronized swimming, which before this year I thought was really not a sport but entertainment, but now realizing what they are doing, not sure if I could move that quickly and hold my breath that long, that's tough as well......and they look pretty good too....LOL

The next soccer game for the gold is 11:45 a.m. (pacific time) on Thursday. You should probably double check your listing. They will be playing Japan. The girl I told you about from our hometown, Redding, is Megan Rapinoe, she scored 2x yesterday!

Just watching the billionaires horses jump in their competition....LOL Nice horses. We have a 65 yr. old olympian riding and a Prince of Sudi Arabia!
They mentioned too that this game has had more television coverage than any in the past, I don't recall getting to watch so many different events. Coverage has been great.

Did you get to see the decathalon? Those guys have to do like 10 different sports, and everyone else thinks they train hard? It's the first time since like 1956 that America took Gold and Silver.
