Best floors for rental?

Can anyone recommend the best type of floating floor to put down in a rental? What thickness/durability rating do I need? What style is most desirable to renters these days (light, dark, modern, classic, ect?) Where is the best place to get deals? I'm hoping to spend around $1.2-1.7/sqft. Also any recommendation on bathroom/kitchen tiles would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Here's something I'm going to try out on my upcoming rental rehabs.

It's furniture grade plywood ($ 11.50 for 4'x8' sheet at HD) cut into 4'x4' sections and alternate grain laid. finished with 3 coats of poly.

I love the way it looks in this picture and by gosh, I'm going to copy this ;-)
