Dear Fellow BPers in and around Tokyo Japan.
I would like to get a small informal get-together going on a regular basis somewhere in Tokyo. Open to anyone willing to make the trip of course, but likely folks from the Kanto area - Yokohama, Chiba, Saitama, Kanagawa, Ibaraki, etc?
Please reply here in case you're interested, and if you want to help organize, even better! :)
Let's try to get the first meeting going in the next 2-3 weeks, then hopefully make it a monthly thing??
@Daniel Ryu Thank you for the link to your article. I can't wait to read it and share it. All who attended the small joint meetup last month invest in the US. I am hoping to grow our local group in Yokosuka and this type of resource will be very helpful because having a roadmap from someone who has traveled the way we want to go is always helpful because it makes what seems impossible more real and attainable. I'm sharing it with the Yokosuka group and suggesting we have a discussion on it when we meet.
We are in our infancy stage, so no, we have not yet thrown our meetup on Meetup.com
The February meetup will be Thursday Feb 18th, from 7pm, at Brewdog Roppongi!
Please let me know by Sunday if you're planning to attend. Hope to see everyone there!
Also, we now have an actual meetup.com listing! The plan is to move the scheduling stuff over to that site over time, so would appreciate if you could register there as well
Hey everyone. Sounds good for the next Meetup on March 17th.I should be able to make it.
By the way, need some info/advice, especially for those who have a home here as well as investment properties. Does your chances of securing a loan get affected if you already have investment properties before a home loan or vice-versa? Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Hey Ken, that question depends on the gensen. usually better to get investment loans first then a housing loan. Traditionally housing loans just look like unsecured debt for banks. But lately seems like they don't care.
I intend to attend the meeting if my schedule is allowed.
Regarding Ken's question, the banks look at the totality of applicant's circumstancesto see if you can repay the loan. They look at factors like how old he will be when the loan is matured, whether you are healthy or not, the value of a collateral, or how long he has been working at a company etc. Trevor is right that gettng a loan from a bank is easier nowadays because of recent qualitative easing policies.
I definitely intend on going. And I'm interested to hear/have a deeper discussion about Ken's question myself. I am officially married as of today, and my wife and I are excited about pursuing some investments in the very near future!
Congrats Matthew!!! Sounds great to have a life partner who shares the same goals! Thanks for the info Trevor and Naga! Looking forward to catching up/meeting whoever can make it tonight.
It was fun and hugely informative last night. By talking to you guys, I have got some ideas how I should pursue my real estate investment. I look forward to the next meeting . Thank you for organizing this, Dmitri

Hey Kenny just noticed your question regarding investment property vs home residence loan first. In my experience and with everyone I've spoken to you should definitely get the home loan first. Japan banks don't tend to look down upon having a home loan when giving investment loans, but I know of multiple people who were unable to take out home loans and told by the banks they'd need to wait a couple years after taking out sizable loans for investment properties.
@Dmitri L. I will be in Japan ( Tokyo as well ) between 13-24. LMK if you happen to have an event during these dates. Would love to meetup the local REI groups
