Anyone ever done a successful chicken farm for profit?

I know this is a real real estate forum , but a chicken farm would have to be on real estate. :-)

Has anyone successfully done a chicken farm? I know there are people on line with videos and training, etc. but there’s no guarantee they are actually doing what they talk about.

If she loves animals and wants to raise chickens, she may be disconnected with a farm that intends to do other things to the chickens...

I have not. I was a beekeeper and talked with quite a few other beekeepers and farmers. I never saw a lamborghini in any of their driveways and there isn't one in mine. Most weren't chicken farmers though, so maybe that is what they were missing!
Farming is not known for being an industry that produces much wealth. Massive scale through automation is required to be profitable.
I've read that avian flu is crushing poultry farmers, partly because farmers are required to destroy their entire flock of potentially exposed birds if one gets the flu. Your best lead is probably to find a real chicken farmer venue versus a real estate venue.

Joe, I buy our layer hens here. They just bought another property in Seguin to expand. Stop and talk to them.

  One of my daughters loves animals and is wanting to raise some more chickens. I am trying to see if it might be profitable to help her get started in a major operation instead of a hobby.

No but I driven past a bunch of them between here and Indianapolis... you don't quickly forget THAT smell. LOL.
I'm sure I couldn't hack it-- I couldn't even live near one.

  The turkey's are to gamey to eat lol. I like our guinea's eggs though.

Two comments.

First. My brother in law is a Corn/soybeans farmer in MN. (I go out there every year to run the combine for harvest.) He’s tried pigs and chickens. If you’re not going to go at least semi-commercial it’s a hobby, a character builder, MAYBE it pays a well as a paper route for a kid.

You have to enter in to a contract with a large chicken processor to have any chance of meaningful money in the Midwest. They’ll build the buildings for you and provide the chicks as long as you feed/care for and sell them back to them for “X” number of years. The “good” news corn/feed prices are in the toilet as long as you aren’t required to destroy your flock because of an out break and you have the acres to dedicate to it away from your living quarters it’s probably as good a time as any

Ps. I just saw you and Mike Kirby are both in Texas so he might have a better take on how it works in Texas. At least in regards to if it’s a “paper route” replacement or if there are big companies involved. Since you don’t need as much shielding from winter weather maybe they aren’t involved.

@Joe S. Interesting idea! I haven’t done it myself, but I’ve seen some investors make it work by pairing farmland income with rental units. Good luck exploring it!
