I realize the title sounds too good to be true, but I can literally attribute over a million dollars in income directly back to real estate investing podcasts. Most everybody in this industry has come to recognize what an important role podcasts are playing in terms of putting out quality education and content for real estate investors. The platform is continuing to gain momentum (as evidenced by the success of Josh and Brandon’s BiggerPockets podcast).
That said, real estate investing podcasts have been around for years, and I was one of the early adopters of this medium. Over the years, I’ve listened to and developed relationships with guys like The Real Estate Guys and more recently, Matt Theriault. From interviews to live seminars to bus tours, these types of shows have created an enormous amount of education, but also an incredible opportunity to network with other investors.
For me, I’ve been able to capitalize on these podcasts in 3 main areas.

Applying the Principles
If you’ve listened to a handful of podcasts, you’ll come to recognize common themes and principles that are discussed throughout. I know for me, listening to discussions on wealth creation over and over keeps me motivated to achieve my goals. It’s very easy to become complacent and lose sight of investing objectives, but when you put yourself on a consistent diet of motivating material, it’s much easier to keep the bigger picture in view.
Seizing the Opportunity to Network
I think one of the most important elements to a good podcast is the community of investors that naturally gets created as a result of the common interest. Some podcasters do a better job than others at creating this sense of community among listeners. Over the years, I’ve attended a number of educational seminars and bus tours that were hosted through different shows. In my opinion, this is really where the opportunity lies.
You can listen to all of the education in the world, but if you don’t take action, it’s essentially useless. Shows that facilitate networking between listeners, whether it’s an online forum or a live event, create some of the best opportunities to learn as well as invest. I have personally met hundreds of investors over the years through these types of events and can attest to the fact that real money can be generated as a direct result of these relationships.
Along the same lines, the more you put into a podcast, the more you will get out of it. It’s taken years, but I have developed friendships with many of the hosts of these shows. As a result, I’ve had the privilege of being interviewed, speaking at events, hosting bus tours, etc. Contrary to what some assume, most podcast hosts are very approachable and willing to get to know their listeners on a personal level. Like any relationship, these types of connections are cultivated over time, but can reap tremendous reward if made in a genuine manner.
Technology and the way information is disseminated has evolved so rapidly over the last decade. With minimal barriers to entry, real estate investors can reach a large audience of peers through platforms such as podcasting. This ability to share knowledge and information as well as connect to other like-minded investors has created an environment where we can quickly learn and create opportunities to invest.
I can personally attest to the fact that this medium works and absolutely creates opportunities for income — so much so that I actually recently launched my own podcast (Deal Farm) in an effort to help others do the same. To me, education and inspiration are important, but creating opportunities to put those lessons into practice are just as important.
Ultimately, you are going to get out what you put in. Whether or not you listen to real estate podcasts, it’s important to get your education somewhere and then take the initiative to network with others and put your education into action!
