2013 BiggerPockets Summit Update

Hey All -
For the past many months, I've been working towards putting on a second conference for 2013 to follow our very successful inaugural event from last year. Along the way, I've run into many challenges, but ventured forward, as I want nothing more than to throw yet another awesome conference.

That said, due to many factors, we are going to be postponing the BP Summit until hopefully, the Spring of 2014. Please know that this is not a decision that I make lightly.

I'm not going to get into everything here, but rest assured that this is the right decision for BiggerPockets as a company.

Sorry to let many of you down, but we're not going anywhere, and if everything goes right, we'll all get to link up again soon.

Thanks for all the hard work you've been doing to put this thing together Josh. I'll be there for sure in 2014!

On the brighter side, this gives me time to get more awesome properties under my belt so I don't feel like such a newbie at the summit! Woot

    Thanks Joshua Dorkin for all the hard work you have been putting in to this. I will be there whenever the summit takes place next year. If you need help with anything you've got a wealth of supporters behind you that are willing to help out.

    Thanks everyone for the kind words. I appreciate it. This has truly been one of the more difficult decisions I've had to make.

    David Johnson - There is no list. If you're interested in our conferences, just keep your ears peeled for information in our newsletter or set up a keyword alert for the word "summit" and you'll get emails when the topic is discussed. Once we put tickets for sale, you can then decide if you want to pay to attend the event. Thanks for the interest!

    Hey Josh no worries.

    I will just go on a non-related vacation elsewhere. My wife always loves the "no business" vacations.

    Maybe now we can go to Aspen. Is the colors good in September in Aspen or is that a bad time to go??

    Still planning in Austin, Josh Dorkin? March/April weather should be better than early September. You'll want to avoid SXSW week in March as the whole city is booked.

    I think late September is peak Aspen color, Joel.

    Thank you very much for all your hard work with Biggerpockets!! Thank you for being such a great leader!! As you know, Real Estate is in an artificial recovery with Hedge Funds purchasing so much of the Trustee Sales without a second thought of price, which is driving the market & competition amongst investors!!
    I applaud you and THANK YOU for holding off the Summitt till 2014!! I'm trying to find the right words to describe the present investor's' climate-COMPETITIVE!!! We are in Southern CA & believe us, we put in offers every day but they are rejected, but we continue!! Many new investors are so desperate to get a deal, they forgot the most important component of investing, SAFETY & bid the property so high, more than the true value! We were very fortunate that our first 2 deals in 2013 have been financially lucrative, so we pass on deals that don't make sense!!
    However we have seen & heard advertising to potential Investors to attend a free seminar & later sell mentorship for a large amount of money!! The trend seems to be Big Name Investors becoming Mentors & putting on Seminars!!
    We feel that now is not the time for newbies to put all their monies into mentorship but look at the market & learn from biggerpockets!!! Ask lots of questions & know that winning a bid when placing an offer is very competitive!!
    Waiting till 2014 can give a different perspective, observing 2013 is a very good business decision for now!!

    Folks - At this point, there is no more information. We don't have a location, date, or price, and won't likely for a little bit. As soon as we have any information to share, I'll make sure we do.

    It sure would be awesome to set up some affiliate program with a hotel like that wouldn't it?! Now, that would be playing real estate on a whole new level for me. I like the GN for 3 reasons;

    - I've attended many reputable seminars there and the room rates are very affordable. Plus, they did a huge renovation project so their rooms are really nice.

    - It is downtown Vegas so there is stuff to do, but you don't have to dress like you are going to the Golden Globes to fit in (unlike the strip).

    - Vegas is an affordable fly-to destination for people from all over the country and us BPers here in SoCal can get there in 3-4 hours by car.

    As far as conference costs, I have no idea. I do know that some of the people I have gone to see and continue to learn from are some of the most frugal of investors that walk this earth (I saw Jack Miller there many times and if you knew Jack, well, need I say more?). If those educators are holding seminars there, I am sure they have done their homework and shopped around for the best deal.
