Hello, my name is Scott and I'm interested in breaking into real estate investment. I've been lurking on this site for awhile now and I'd first like to thank everyone that's contributed so much useful knowledge for free.

I'm a former airline pilot, current stay at home dad and I'd like to learn as much as I can and get any pointers on what a good investment strategy would be in my area. I worked in the construction industry during summers home from college for many years. We did everything from flips, rehabs, to multimillion dollar new construction.

Right now I'd really like to just start learning all I can in my (very precious) free time while my children are young. Once they hit school age in about 3 years I'd like to jump into the industry full time in some capacity (I hope to never touch another airplane again :)).

Thanks in advance to the reply's.

    Hi Tim,
I'm new here, but wanted to welcome you into real estate investing.

I think there are some really good opportunities in the Denver market right now. I don't know much about the Boulder market - it is definitely a different animal there.

And Tim Dailey - do you happen to fly for JetBlue? I fly to Boston every other week, and I am so thrilled that I discovered JetBlue a little over a year ago. It's my all time favorite airline!

Welcome!! I'm also from Denver, and think it would be a great idea for all of us from the Denver metro area to get together every so often and talk shop.

Also I suggest you go to the BP summit. Last year it was held here in Denver, and I can't even begin to describe how much I came away with.

    Good luck!!!!

Thanks for all the replies. If you flew on my airline the side of the plane would say United or US Airways, but the name of the airline was Colgan Air. They're no longer in existence.

I'd love to meet up with some other Denver people if anyone is interested. I'm in the NW burbs right between Denver and Boulder.

    Thanks Ben.

I was wondering if anyone has any insight on flipping in our area, especially lower end properties.

    Scott,

Had a buddy leave Colgan for Kalitta about a year ago.

Tanya, I do indeed fly for JetBlue. I commute to/from Boston about once a week.

There is a gentleman on the forums named Anson (his last name escapes me, my apologies. Young, perhaps?). He has advertised for the occasional meetup fairly recently. Due to my schedule, I've been unable to attend, but would enjoy meeting with some Denver peeps. Hopefully sometime soon (Sundays thru Tuesdays for me, for whatever that's worth). My interests lie in learning more and more about paper.

Hi Tim, there always seemed to be a circular flow of people from Colgan into the cargo world, and often back to Colgan in the training department. I don't envy the schedule of those cargo guys. I also don't envy your commute to BOS, I used to complain about Hartford to Dulles. I'm from an airline family, my dad's a SWA capt and he's transferring to the new Denver base to finish out his career. It's nice to see some another pilot on the board.

I'd love to get a Denver group going. As I mentioned I'm a stay at home dad and my wife runs a consulting business out of the house. I can do just about any evening and could probably do an afternoon with some advanced warning. I don't know anything about paper, but I'd love to learn.

Hey Scott and welcome to the site. There is actually a Denver group on the site and they put on a meetup about 2 months ago. Definitely join the group and if they aren't putting anything on, jump in and suggest something.

If I can make it, I do my best to.

Let us know if there's anything we can help you with. Good luck and we'll see you around the site.
