Correct Aaron not here to make the problem worse, I also no longer do a courtesy vote anymore for engagements to my posts. And yes, I understand, I also do no interact with empty comments. Once in a blue I do point out kindly to the individual that their comment has zero intensions to the original posts.
Thank you for the function option you mentioned. Good to know. Was what I explain actually falls under "Report Abuse" for the wasted empty comments from others?
What would you need us to word it as when reported?
"Comment does not apply", "comment for self-glorification", or .....?

It it doesn't apply to the topic at hand, then it's pretty much just spam. Maybe we could add an "Off Topic" option to that menu.

@Joshuam R. We are all probably aware of a few members whose posts are always just a sentence or maybe 2 at the most. Or those that always use AI or copy and paste..... An obvious attempt to drive up numbers and very little substantive use.
But then there are other members who post a lot, but usually with an intent to be helpful....and even get long-winded at times. I hope you don't object to those people?

Correct Bruce, and yes I never do. Writing all their thoughts takes time and I value all of that. But I say like 1% give an answer or just a phrase that is not helpful and is 180 degrees opposite direction from what the original post was intended to birth and hopefully helpful to others as it grows. That 1% pebble in my shoe comments. As Aaron mentioned a "Report/Abuse-Off Topic" should be their reward.
It is annoying for others reading a post, then reading 30 members responses, and 10 of them are just not healthy filter when users are digging for clarity.
I actually posted this to vent in a satire type of way in this forum category, but glad the Bigger Pockets excellent customer service chime in and has a very helpful solution to help their forum product/ platform.

I feel ya!! I want to shake people every time they write "get a property manager." And that's their entire answer.
Well guess what, some of us live in such rural areas that property management companies don't exist in the area. So unless you want to deal with someone 1+ hours away that doesn't know a darn thing about the community then you're stuck doing it all yourself.

I hear ya, some users that post do tend to leave out simple key details in their inquiries which then it leaves it open ended and lots of assumptions from many members in different directions occur. A post like that is fair game for everyone share their insights as they are trying to help out.
Just sharing the following in case someone is reading first time users. Before posting review it to make sure it is a clear enough story to your question. But obviously that takes time to know what to ask, or what will trigger good feedback and interaction from members or realize oh crap I should of added this to the question or take this part out. I experienced this before from my end. But it gets better.
Also select your specific area/region for your post.
Now I am curious, there is really such a rural place with zero property managers? Isn't that saying like there is zero real estate agents in your rural area? At least there has to be one available.

YES, YES, YES!! I whole heartedly agree, we need a dislike button! I have been appalled at the lack of advice top contributors on certain forms have, and IMO it's just to keep their points up.

I totally agree with what's been said here. It's no secret that some people hop onto forums just to boost their stats and get attention with a flashy signature line. Honestly, I never really thought about it that way, but I guess it makes sense to keep answers concise to boost ones stats just for the vanity metrics.
But you know what bugs me? It's when people ask the same old questions or ones they could easily find answers to with a bit of research. You've probably seen it too, like those posts asking about turnkey rentals or whether to buy a house next door without doing any groundwork.
There's a famous saying that goes, "The quality of your answers is directly related to the quality of your questions." And I totally get that, except for questions that have been asked a zillion times before. Still, I think it would be better if we had more back-and-forth discussions here instead of just one-off questions and quick tips. I'll always open to help just as long as someone has done the homework and asking specific questions... the question after the first question basically.

Well this is a good point as well. This is generally a great and helpful forum. We all know who the folks are just trying to boost stats...
What tends to annoy me is when the OPs, posting in an open forum like the ones here on BP, act as if they own the thread, and only contributions that directly address their question should be allowed in the discussion. As if the thread exists purely and only for one person's benefit.
Especially when the OP has something like a hundred posts and ten likes, as well as a history of posting similar questions in similar ways. That's when I mutter unkind things at the screen involving the OP's lack of capital, lack of vision, lack of IQ, female canines, certain aspects of incest, that sort of thing.
I don't know about all of you, but I will do my best to answer questions that show the OP has made at least a basic effort to find an answer before throwing it out here for the community to answer. Other than that, I'm writing for the community, not one person. I'm no one's monkey.
You want your basic answers, there's a wealth of information out there, and a lot of it is right here on BiggerPockets in the guides and podcasts. You want general cheerleading, invest in a motivational speaker's collection of talks.I remain convinced that a very large part of doing well in real estate is learning the hard answers to some hard questions by yourself. There is no royal road to success that works for everyone, despite the claims of various gurus and self-promoting experts. In large part, you have to find your own way in this business, and it's not going to be easy. It just isn't.
And yet, the BiggerPockets forums are the one and only place in pretty much all of the REI industry, where you can ask a well-thought-out question and get something other than self-promotion in response by a stranger (and not infrequently a stranger whose net worth and technical know-how is substantial) who's actually been there and done it. I've met people I could barely believe would reach out to me through these forums and then in real life. And then I've done deals with them, and benefited hugely from their experience. Where else does that ever happen?
So that's a large part of what's important to me about these forums.

Yep @Jim K., the best and fastest way to gain knowledge is to fail. It seems that a lot of the younger crowd are determined to never fail, as if that were too painful to endure. Truth be know, if people could realize the actual value of failure, they would be rushing into failing ventures just to learn faster.
In this business, (and most others), Failure = Success!
A dislike button would only serve to stifle communications.
If you dislike an answer, (no one cares except you).
Take what is offered as a gift, and move on with your day.
If a lot of people are upvoting something, and your not seeing the light of it--maybe your just missing the point.
May ask the poster to further elucidate on the subject for you vs jumping to conclusions as to why the person posted.
Just my 2 cents.

Many of us like you or me are not just answering that individual, but are speaking to a wider audience. Or at times may be speaking to a singular small audience of each other. Ive often posted things where I know maybe you, or Jay Hinrichs or someone else will get the joke, that no one else even realizes there's a hidden joke.

Yes, good point, I always share with my circle you have to know to ask the right questions or you will not get the answer you need but they actually have. Applies to everything and every service provider.
I hear what you are saying, sometimes I feel like whoops sort of once I post and the "Similar Posts You May Like" populates. But also the same question to an older post few years back may benefit to repeat to get newer fresh feedback. I have ran into a searched topic, I read on, and it is great feedback, I comment, then I realize holy crap, this post and the comments are 8 years old, feels like I visited a graveyard and in return my comment would hear crickets.
