BiggerPockets has just launched its first-ever promo video!
You can watch it from several places on the site, and it is also live on all of your favorite video sites like YouTube, Google Video, Facebook, Myspace, etc.
This is truly a wonderful time to celebrate the coming of biggerpockets and its proud founder Josh Dorkin. Congrats on the release Josh and I await the coming of more videos as well.
The 'feedback' so far seem to be mostly a slap on the back. The video is funny and similar to some things on YouTube. By that I mean the video makes you smile, laugh and others entertains. Like stuff you would share over a beer when kicking back.
Are you looking for serious comments as to its fit and purpose plus some presentation issues?
To be fair to anyone providing feedback it would help if we knew the audience. Most of the BP regulars might enjoy the video but as they are regulars the video is not likely for them. I am assuming here that you want to use the video to attract new visitors and maybe even people who will put money in to BP (contributions or advertisers).
In the right context the video is great. In the wrong context it might damage the brand. What is the context?
Tangent: Have you seen the video on YouTube called 'Shift Happens'? It was designed to make people think. The version that I think is the best is the one that shows an Apple iPhone as the still image. Just search for 'shift happens' on the YouTube website. Likely the 3rd one in the list of matches. It was produced by a Colorado school district for the teachers to wake them up about what is going on in the real world. A UK version was later produced for a Microsoft presentation at the British Library.

Sometimes a spade is just a spade. If you can't just enjoy the video for what it is, you're thinking too much.
As a joke video it is pretty funny. I like the one where you are picking your nose. I was concerned that some advertisers or people donating might be a bit put off.
Will you be releasing the video to YouTube or other sites where non BP folks will stumble upon it?
It is already out there and people continue to email me that they think it is great and many have visited or joined BP as a result. Seems to me like it is serving its purpose.
As for losing Advertisers, if someone won't advertise because they think the promo is offensive, then I'm not going to miss them.
Josh, I enjoy your lightheartedness and that is what has helped BP remain outstanding. I believe that the video portrays what everyone of us should be . A fun loving person who can laugh at himself and relax. I can't speak for everyone however I invest so I have the freedom to relax and enjoy my life. If the formula isn't RE=$=FUN than the numbers don't work for the deal. Keep it up!!! :woohoo:

I just watched it again and laughed as hard as the first time I watched it. Great job Josh... hilarious! That's what I like about this site and it's owner, they don't take themselves too seriously!
