I made this video this morning below in seeing this article. I'm hopeful that BiggerPockets will start doing a better job of vetting who they decide to put in the spotlight. Platforms such as BP can compound individuals popularity that can lead to the average investor investing in people and places that they should not.
Any suggestions on the type of vetting you'd like to see BiggerPockets do for their guests?
It was 2 years later before the FBI was able to find enough evidence to take action; I'm not sure it's a reasonable to expect a podcast platform to meet a higher bar than the FBI.
Don't mean that to sound flippant, but this is a difficult issue to address and we don't know how often BiggerPockets has actually been successful in filtering potentially shady guests. Perhaps their track record is better than we all suspect.
Don't let money be your God. Have fun, Help People, Be legal. BP ran with that guy with no experience pushing him on podcasts, wanting him to write a book on NNN, etc. When it blew up in their face they wanted me to write a book on NNN. I told them I already wrote one on my own.
Since BP is now owned by a big company it has all changed. When people cycle out of top positions frequently that should tell you something. They want to push the sizzle without verifying properly as it sells more.
For capital investments with my syndication sometimes I lose out to the hyper syndications pushing crap projections and PPM's full of outright fake numbers. The LP investors want to believe the trash so bad that they invest and then years later lose it all or get no return.
Me personally I do not care to have the highest net worth number or make the most money. I care about being able to sleep at night with a peaceful mind. The crazy thing is alot of these types will be back at it in another 5 to 10 years. Remember the Morris guy and tons of others?

The first, and most obvious clue, should have been how he went from $0 to $50mm in just a few years.
Todd people want to believe the bullsh&t of fast success so fast that their reasoning brain turns off. Does it happen? Of course but is often 1 in a million success story like that and the rest are simply not real.
I don't waste time talking to people that are unrealistic dreamers. I want realists that understand success takes actionable steps not founded in fraud or deception.
