great event.. Bruce Norris was worth the cost of admission. some take aways from his presentation.
1. No major melt down in the near future.
2. mortgage market much stronger for obvious reasons ( no liar loans real world underwriting)
3. markets would need 40% of the inventory on MLS to be foreclsoures to cause a major correction ( this is not happening).
4. He feels cap rates and multi family is the one segment that is frothy and could correct.
5. in a subtle way he was saying when profits avail themselves it can be good to take it off the table.
Whats he doing now... his normal short term lending and he is now building some new construction.. as that is exactly what I do.. I felt like I was personally on the right track as well.. Great presentation.
@ Jay Hinrichs - Nice to meet you yesterday and you look great!
Yes, indeed, listened to Bruce is a treat for us as an RE investor. He definitely knows something as he has been building in Riverside for the last two years.
FYI, Riverside is the "bedroom" for LA and Orange County where the housing is still "somewhat" affordable.
@Bac Nguyen thank you,,,, he is also building in Florida. and guess were I was at 2 weeks ago.. looking at a 54 lot subdivision to build out in Orlando LOL... this is a super event.. J. Martin has done a super job putting this all together..
@John Casmon great meeting you again and having our long conversation. Hope to work with you in the future.
Absolutely great meeting and chatting. We'll definitely be in touch and discuss future opportunities!
Day 1 was filled with some great content from people like Bruce Norris, @Brie Schmidt , Kathy Fettke, J Scott, and so many others. Looking forward to today's sessions.
@Jay Hinrichs (+ others.) Thanks for the overview of Norris's presentation. Did he have any comments specific to the Bay Area market? I know it's not his bailiwick, but did he have any specific thoughts on it? Thx

I'll see everyone there today...
He did mention that most rules of economics you can throw out the window when your talking a out the penninusla and SF real estate.. Or something to that effect.. I mean you cant make much sense of the 2.5 million dollar 50 year old 1200 sq ft home in Palo Alto :)
Bruce also said he doesn't see much appreciation in SFHs in the Bay Area in the future. He sees a little more volatility in multi-families. Interest rates possibly going lower which doesn't really help the market from cooling.
I could only make Saturday unfortunately. It was great though. However, there were a ton of eager RE investors. Unless I come up on a deal driving for dollars, my gut tells me to hold off investing in the Bay Area.
It was a great closing day, a few investors and I derived a new mortgage math thing at a breakout session, it was super cool to see folks that I met a year ago again, I remain awkward at public speaking but great at public Q&A (which is a weird combo), the event coordinator was phenomenal, the weather was perfect with Blue Angels in the sky and everything, for Bay Area locals @Katie P.'s next east bay Sunday meetup in Oakland or Berkeley is the natural mandatory follow up, many people obviously drank way too much Saturday night & were dehydrated today as a result because the multiple cold water jugs were completely empty by about noon, and I look forward to seeing everyone again next year!
The Summit was an awesome event!! Great inspiration and even more actionable insights. It's a joy to be among so many experienced, motivated entrepreneurs taking so many paths to achieve their goals. It really opened up my eyes to new areas like note investing and development. Also, learning from folks like @Ben Leybovich, @Al Williamson and @J. Martin confirmed that I can realize my goals to achieve financial freedom through Bay Area furnished rentals.
HUGE shout out to J. Martin for an amazing, value-packed weekend!! For a self-proclaimed lazy guy, you worked your *** off to pull this thing together and did a HUGE service to the REI community and to charity. THANK YOU. Oh, and please get some sleep...you deserve it!
Wow.. What a great time!! Amazing speakers, attendees to meet, great info, and raised over $20K for charity in the process.. I was amazed :) Thank you everyone who came out and made it possible!!
We will have the speaker videos for sale and will send out an email announcement and post on here when ready.. Check back!
Also special shoutout to @Brie Schmidt for sharing these pics on FB. We'll have MANY more as we get them back from our photographer..
It was amazing to have been able to sit down to interview Bruce Norris and pick his brain with the questions I've always wanted to ask him. First SF Bay Summit started in 2014. Have come a long way!
As always, great networking.
The beautiful view of Lake Merritt from the balcony of our event.
The crowd getting ready for @Kathy Fettke's presentation.
And of course, awesome event! This year might have been the best yet.
Thought it was pretty cool people came from all over, I even met a women from Spain the first night!
I didn't get to see all of the speakers, but of the ones I saw @Brian Burke, @Will Barnard, and @J Scott were definitely top of the list. Bummed I was scheduled the same time as @Al Williamson, guess I'll have to see him in Philly ;)
Very nice to see/meet everyone... Lots of online friends that I finally got to meet in person... And thanks to everyone who came out to my presentation!
@J. Martin Such a wonderful RE networking event! #SellingSistahs and brotha learned so much and met some great folks! We'll definitely be back next year!
@J. Martin this is my third summit and I am always impressed with the amount of free flowing knowledge passed among the attendees. Great job, I am looking forward to next year!
@Will Barnard, "Great event thus far, lots of networking going on here" Glad you're expanding your connections too Will :) Getting all the speakers together for dinner was great, and raising that $20k for charity even better!
@Joseph Fang, "Having a blast meeting many BP celebrities! Looking forward to learning more tomorrow!" It's crazy seeing all those people together in one room and getting all their opinions in a single gathering. Hopefully Sunday was just as good for you :)

You definitely came with a goal in mind, and met the right people to get there. Thank you so much for the shout out. It's what makes it all worth doing :) (on top of the $20K for charity)
"great event.. Bruce Norris was worth the cost of admission.... this is a super event.. J. Martin has done a super job putting this all together.."
Ahh Jay, you're making me blush! Glad you enjoyed my interview with Bruce Norris. I've always wanted to pick his brain, get a sense for what he feels about fallout in the next cycle, and where he's putting his money today. You hit the nail on the head! You two have a lot of similarities in your business. Thanks so much for coming out to share, and I'll get you confirmed earlier next year so we can get you up on the stage for a solo session & Q&A with the audience next year.
@Bac Nguyen, Glad you decided to make it out after all, and meet some great folks.
@Amit M., We'll have the video of all the non-breakout-sessions for sale, in case there's anything you missed. He also called a recession in 2018 or just thereafter, if I remember correctly. But without loose lending and higher foreclosure rates, doesn't expect big price dip. And as Jay said, hard to understand the rules/economics in the Bay. Should have asked him more about affordability measures... Gotta save something for next time though!
@Chris Mason, It was so interesting to hear all the questions that come out of the woodwork on lending for your session, and glad you were able to get through so many of them. There are so many intricacies, and appreciate you sticking up for the investor ;) I wish I could make it to @Katie P.'s next meetup also, but flying out tonight to East Coast, then India on Saturday! I'll send back some travel video, and try to do some online calls or something where a bunch of us can discuss topics. Keep up the awesome networking while I'm gone!
Shout out to @Dave Van Horn for the great pics from FB, helping support the event, and supporting charity. Note investing kept popping up as a priority to many investors I spoke with, and the interest after your session was huge Dave! Thanks again for coming out to share and support the event Dave. Really an amazing time.
Here's the highlight reel again for anyone who missed it:
What a GREAT group of people! Thank you so much @J. Martin for inviting me to speak. I was pretty nervous in front of that savvy group of investors, but not as nervous as last year when I was in the main theater and my slides wouldn't advance and I couldn't remember the talk without them. lol The highlight for me was YOU as AUCTIONEER, raising over $20K for a children's charity in Vietnam. It inspired me to do more. So many people are in need. Big hugs to everyone. Sorry I couldn't stay on Sunday but it was my bday and hubby had lots of fun plans. :-) See you soon!
I had an incredible experience at the summit last weekend. I learned so much from different sessions and there were ideas that really opened my eyes. Also really enjoyed talking to many fellow investors, some super experienced, some in the similar boat as I am, and some starting out - there is something to learn from everyone. It was fantastic networking opportunity and I am super motivated and inspired after the summit. This alone is worth way more than the ticket price. Already really excited for next year's summit. @J. Martin Thank you!!
@J. Martin - Looks like you knocked it out of the park!!!!
Great job. I will definitely coordinate with you for next Fall. I hated missing this event!
Quick question ~ Did you have any sessions on scaling a business? Did you have a session on marketing? On Wholesaling? On lead generation?
I would love to hear who you brought in for these topics and see how they went.
Lastly, are you going to list or create a page to raise any funding for the orphanage in Vietnam from the BP group not at the event? Would love to support you.
All the best to you and plan on seeing you next year!
Thank you for a great event @J. Martin and all of those who contributed as speakers and attendees! I look forward to the video, which I meant to grab on may way out and forgot!
This event has to be one of the best I have been to in quite awhile. I met so many great people and finally put a real voice and face to many I have been conversing with on BP but never met in person. Thank you all who took the time to come talk to me and say such nice things, I was flattered. I think. Made more connections in this short time period than ever before.
Thanks to J Martin for putting together this great event.
@J. Martin thanks for putting this on. Another great event! Each year I leave your event feeling inspired to go out and absolutely crush it, keep it up. Looking forward to connecting with many of the people I was able to meet at the event and always looking forward to the next one. Safe travels in India.
@J. Martin Great job with the Summit - I had such a great time! I took a bunch of notes and learned quite a bit. I look forward to attending next year, hopefully some kind of deal already under my belt.
settle for a month. Then I took action today and started meeting property owners about leasing their homes and managing them as furnished rentals. It looks like I will be leasing 1or 2 homes already and clearing about $1K per month per rental. Hey once I get 15 or 20 I can quit my day job! Very excited to accelerate my investing through a scalable leasing & property management business.

I'm getting the video ready for those who got it, survey results, and networking app results, to send out. So what are you up to now that the Summit got you connected and motivated? Targeted networking focused on geography/city/state
Breakout Sessions. I think this was @Lynn Currie's session on raising capital the right way.. Packed!! @Doug Chinn, @Account Closed's session on Saving on Taxes. Her donation of time for our charity auction brought in $4k for orphan children in Vietnam. Thank you SO MUCH for everything!!!
For everyone who came out from Oakland, San Francisco, San Jose, Sacramento, San Diego, and everywhere in between - thank you so much for your open sharing with others, and all the amazing support raising over $20K for charity!! :)
Survey results, Whova (networking app) results, the edited videos, and more, coming soon! I was on a motorcycle trip in India right after the Summit, so thank you for your patience :) From Chiang Mai, Thailand, J Martin
