Hi BiggerPockets Community!

My name is Martin and I working towards purchasing my first rental property. I am based in NJ, but am targeting the South Bend, IN area for my first rental (primarily interested in long term rentals using the BRRR and buy-hold strategies).

I am new to investing so I would love to connect with other investors, agents, lenders, property managers in the South Bend area or anyone who focuses on out-of-state investing as well!

    Martin,

    Indiana is a great spot for LTR/STR right now South bend is a popular spot as well as all around Carmel by the universities. If you want to talk to a great lender Beau Matlock run the Matlock Group over in the Carmel area. A lot of 2-4 units over that way and some great TLC properties that are priced in favor of the buyer & cash flow.

    I was just looking at a few properties over off of Union the other day.

    Hi @Martin Kim have you considered house hacking in new jersey?  Great way to grow quick and leverage an unfair advantage taking over our state.

     @Shawn Mcenteer - Absolutely. However, it's hard to come by a decently priced multifamily in my county, or even come by them at all!

    I always look at New Jersey as a state with expensive homes but with that we also have expensive rents.

     @Shawn Mcenteer Bergen. I feel as though I'm a bit priced out of the multifamilies here (at least in the towns I want to live in).

    @Martin Kim tough to say without knowing a bit more but I will let you know when I first jumped into REI over a decade ago I was in a very similar spot. My wife and I came very close to pulling the trigger out of state. We ended up sticking it out and House Hacking in New Jersey. I'll let you know hands down it has been one of the best decisions we ever made, had we invested out of state there is no way we would have the equity and cash flow we have today. NJ is very intimidating at first but extremely rewarding if using right strategy.

    Hey there @Martin Kim - I am actually in Chicago, but work with several out-of-state investors on the general contracting side of real estate.

    If you are targeting northwest Indiana you should connect with @Eudith Vacio, she knows that area like the back of her hand and would be a great fit to help you out on the real estate agent side.  Plus she is an investor herself.
