New person from Outside Portland, OR

Hello my name is Ben Eiesland. I am from the westside of Portland. Country boy at heart. I am a Manufacturing Engineer in a nuclear products division. I am here to learn. I am interested mostly in buy and hold. I like getting my hands dirty. I just bought a house around 1000 Sq ft ranch. I am currently adding around 700 Sq ft and a foundation. I will add a blog soon to document my misadventures with adding to my house. Is there a local meet up or REIA nearby? Have a great day.

Greetings Ben! My name is Michele. I'm from north of Portland. City girl living in the "country". We do buy and hold, I have a blog to share our landlording misadventures. Will you use a property manager? Kudos to you for adding value with more than putting lipstick on the pig. I'm sure those closer can provide info on local REIA's, highly recommend them.

We are also buy and hold investors. Our speciality is self-manage specifically long distance and local. We have done very well as buy and hold investors because we have been able to have tight tenant screening and a lease.
This is a great site because there are tons of different "Strategies". We are buy and hold, others are wholesalers, bird dog, flippers etc. Look around the blogs, forums and listen to the podcasts. If you see a post you enjoy check out the persons signature. Many of us including myself talk about our strategies, styles, niches and business model on our website. So definitely check that out as it is an amazing additional resource. For example, my blog is about while working full time, buy and hold investing, 0% Down Rentals, Personal Properties turned rentals, Long distancing investing, self-managing 3,000+ miles away. Definitely list your blog in your signature. Its a great additional networking source.

Hey @Ben Eiesland my partner and I have started a new investment association in Portland. We moderated meetings at the Northwest REIA for two years prior to starting the RareBird Investor Network. We add an educational twist to the networking platform and it has been getting raving reviews from the members. 65 members after 4 months and it is quickly growing. Come check us out. We host 3 meetings a month (1-3rd Mondays at Lucky Lab in Multnomah Village) and have a group of members doing deals on a daily basis in the Portland market.

Sorry, I have not replied sooner. Life has been hectic. Thank you for warm welcome. I will probably house hack. A private Christian college is only 6 blocks away. When I move out probably find a property manager at that time.

@Mike Nuss Checked out your website. One thing I noticed is your bus tour is under priced by 40,000.00. Out of state gurus do the same for a little more dough. Looks like a nice value for a local portlandian. Did you host the reia that Anita and Courtney run ?

Hey @Jay Hinrichs thanks for the "bus tour" shout out. We thought about adding a zero or two to the price, but thought that may put us in the "guru" bucket.....a place we do not want to be!!! It should be a good value (our first one so we'll see). We're going to physically go in 5 properties (two with our contractor, one with a designer) as well as a bunch of other properties/projects we've completed.
Come check out some of our meetings. All "non ********" willing to share, network and talk RE are welcome. We would love to have your experience there and I'm sure you'll find some rehabbers that would like to JV on some deals.
We moderated the "developers" meeting, not the deal analysis. We launched RareBird in June. Anita and Courtney shut their meeting down in July and Anita has been co moderating our RareBird deal analysis meeting since. Jim Lerman also shut his Roundtable meeting down and has been moderating our "local expert forum" meeting.
David Scott was throwing out the idea of having a lending panel come talk at the local expert forum sometime in the future. Would you be interested in being on that panel should we decide to do it?
