New to BP and REI in Western Kentucky

Hello to all the BP members! Obviously I'm new to the BiggerPockets site but I look forward to interacting with you and using BP to help me grow my rental investments. Hopefully I learn from those of you who have already "made it" as investors.

@Chris Rose,Welcome to BP.There are plenty of opportunities to learn here.You might check out the podcasts.A lot of sharp people interviewed and sharing their stories of REI,I learn and enjoy them.Where is Burna Ky?

Hey there Bryan Drury! Thanks for the information. It's funny that you mention the podcasts because that's exactly how I found BiggerPockets to start with. I have been an avid listener to the podcasts on my commute to and from work for the last couple of weeks. The podcasts are good stuff! Burna is a small spot in the road about 20 miles east of Paducah. Not exactly a "hot" real estate market, but a good place to find small houses for rentals if they can be purchased at a price where the money works out.

Hi @Brittani Holeman, Burna is in Livingston county. How's the real estate market in Paducah? Do you know of any other investors in our area that would be interested in a meet-up sometime? I would really like to meet like-minded people working towards the same goals.

@Chris Rose I'm actually in the process of becoming a licensed agent, and I actually took my exam today but did not pass =[
But hey all I can do is study study and try again. I would definitely be interested in connecting with you. Investing is major goal in my career! I am passionate about all things real estate.

@Chris Rose,There actually is a meetup in Newburgh IN on April 12th at 6pm at Turoni's.It's called Ohio Valley Real Estate Investors Association.You might want to check it out.I won't be able to make it but I've been in the past and very worthwhile.Good luck

Hello and welcome to BP! Education is one of the keys to minimizing your mistakes. I have heard that mistakes and fear are pretty normal. Just learn from your mistakes and turn any fear into a positive thing. Just keep on going no matter what. Always do the Humberto and try to look at the property or at least have a clause in the sales contract that allows you some time to look at my the property without any penalty fee if you back out. If you acquire any property, right after you close get an insurance policy that will protect you from any loss. Find some experienced Team members that are willing to protect you and return your calls. The typical Team members are Attornies, Real Estate Agents, CPA's, Inspectors, and General Contractors. Do not try to do everything yourself. Focus on the income productive things.
I am 59 years old and I found BP about 7 months ago and I am still trying to decide what to do. I went to college, not that it is mandatory, and I got a business degree that emphasized real estate. Since I was in Texas I qualified for a broker license with my degree. I did not have to take anything extra. I kept that license for about 30 years. Regardless of what I had I felt more comfortable in the construction business. I have been in the construction industry since I was 17. My father has been in real estate for about 40 years and he has taught me a little bit. If you think I can help you please contact me through BP at any time. Good luck!
