Hey what's up all. My name is Garan and I currently reside in the Long Beach area of Southern California. I was born and raised in Hawaii and made my way to California after a short 4-year service in the USAF. I'm 35 years old and work for the Fire Department. I've always been interested in Real Estate investing but just wasn't wise enough or driven enough to take necessary action. The great thing is, I've always been financially responsible and "smart" with my money, so I have a decent base to start off with, not to mention the VA loan. I'm interested in multi-family investing but am also interested in SFR as well, but I am wanting to go more with out of state investing due to the rather crazy prices I see in SoCal. Anyway, I'm listening to a ton of podcasts, audible books, youtube videos, etc. I just have to compile my list of MINS do some LAPS and get on it.
Thanks all for your input and encouragement. I appreciate those who have reached out to me to discuss and help me in achieving some of the goals I have set for myself.
@Steve Frye Thanks for you input on Nashville, I'm excited to explore this area and what my options are further.
@Eddy Udry Through one of the forbes list I've recently seen lately, Boise was one of the cities with the highest projected job growth. I also have a number of coworkers who I work with in LA that have moved to cities in NW Idaho. I will reach out for more info.
@Allison Mueller I'm following a few posts that you're active in concerning the Cleveland and surrounding areas. I'm speaking to a lender in the area today and will definitely shoot you some questions as they come up.
@Jeff Wallenius Congratulations on being able to pursue real estate full time. I love my career and the fulfillment it brings but I too want to be financially independent. I'm definitely blessed to be in a career that's fulfilling to the soul, but also to the bank account as well. I'll be in touch for sure.
@Jeb Brilliant Yes, I do remember reaching out to you and finding out about the meetup. I wasn't able to make the last one, but I'll definitely be at the next.
Hello @Garan Kama, welcome to BP and good luck with achieving your goals. I see you mentioned exploring options in Nashville. I live here now and it is a fantastic market to get into. Lots of people moving here yields lots of homes being sold. With Amazon coming here as well in the next few months, the market looks to keep growing.

It is my pleasure brother. If you would like me to refer you to a lender just let me know! Good luck with everything!!!
Hi @Garan Kama, sounds like you have a great plan! If you are looking to connect with other out of state investors I host a monthly meetup in Long Beach, CA. PM me and I can send you the details!
@Garan Kama I am currently an OOS investor that lives nearby, I went also split between some of the same markets, and a few more and ultimately decided to pull the trigger in Indy and am in the middle of my second purchase now. If you have any questions or ever want to meet up and talk hit me up.
Also if you decide to jump into the market I have some of the contacts that really worked out for me and some that I would recommend you avoid reach out and I am happy to share those as well.
@Com M. Hey thanks for reaching out. I am looking at Indy, but not as intently as a couple other cities. I will definitely let you know when I'm coming out to see if you're available to meetup and talk shop.
