Hello my name is Bryan Heilman, I'm new to real estate and I have been trying to wholesale for a while now. I'm open to learning new investing methods that require little to no money for now. I want to meet new local investors and gain some knowledge on investing within sacramento area.
I attended a meetup tonight with a good friend of mine in Sacramento CA to network but turns out they just wanted to get money out of us by selling their $20,000 program. This was a bummer because my friend drove us all the way out there thinking we were going to network with investors.
It would be absolutely appreciated if you guys can help point us in the right direction on who to network with and which meetups we can attend. We live in Lodi CA and are willing to travel.
That’s unfortunate you guys went to that meetup only for them to want to sell you something. @David Greene had a meetup in Brentwood last night as well that had great content for starting out. He’s putting on more so look for those and I recommend going to them.

@Bryan Jacob Heilman, you weren't the only one who went to that meeting, I just read another post of someone from Lodi who also attended that same meeting and was disappointed. I'd stick to meetups that you find here on BP. There's one in Roseville once a month run by @David Oldenburg and I know there are a couple in Sacramento too. Did you read Brandon Turner's book: Investing with low and no money down?
There is a Real Estate Roundtable that Eric Bleau runs. It is held every other Monday Night and is free. Go to meetup.com and search for "Real Estate Round Table" in Sacramento. Below is the info. I have gone to several of these meetings and the group is growing quickly. Lots of good, free info with 60+ investors at each meeting.

There are also two REIA meetings in the Sacramento area and one in Roseville. Go to the national REIA website and search for them. Tapan Trivedi hosts one by Arden Fair mall and and David Granzella hosts one off Madison and 80. They run $20 per meeting or you can pay for an annual membership. I attend Tapan's every few months or so and he has good info also.

@Bryan Jacob Heilman sorry to hear that. Can you privately message me the details of the event? Sometimes you can find clues to what the organizer's true intentions are based on a quick background check. Typically I do a quick background check on the speakers and event organizer before getting involved. Based on that you can determine the organizer's bias or what they will probably pitch you on.
As far as wholesaling in this market, things are pretty pricey. You would probably be better off if you save your money, network, learn more about buy and hold RE, and once the correction happens, deploy capital then.

Thanks for reaching out Kim! I believe you saw my partner @Ahmed Sublaban 's post , we went together that day. We definitely can't miss out on these networking opportunities, this really helps out a lot thank you! I actually have the book but haven't finished it yet. Are you wholesaling or trying to do something similar?

Hey Jordan I appreciate your time reaching out to me. Unfortunately I do not have the details to the event because I was invited by a good friend of mine. He was under the impression that it was a networking event as well. Thank you we didn't think to do that, but we will definitely do our due diligence next time around!

You're absolutely right, it was difficult trying to get wholesale deals on my own.
Bryan, good move not buying into that program! Not to say those programs can't help as I'm sure you will come to find there are plenty of people out there who are willing to help a young, coachable, motivated investor like yourself.
I will suggest like those above the Real Estate Roundtable (next one is Dec 10th)
Real Estate investing is a numbers business sure but even more so than that its a PEOPLE business. Surround yourself with the people you want to emulate.
I will also suggest the West Sac meet up hosted by my friend @Sergey Tkachev ! This is my home meetup and is also a great opportunity to meet new and old investors
Hey @Bryan Jacob Heilman, I fully agree with all of the above, the meetups that were mentioned are a great resource and you can meet other investors who are willing to help. Definitely check out @David Greene's meetup, as well as the @Eric Bleau's RE Rountable. There is also a smaller West Sac meetup that we have ever 3rd Monday (thanks for the mention @DJ Dawson) Watch the BP events page for upcoming events as well.
