Hey everyone,
Hopefully this finds you all healthy and happy in this crazy year we’re having!
I’ve been feeling somewhat overwhelmed with my current(also first) investment deal and wanted to reach out to the community to see what people do when things get overwhelming.
Let us know what helps you get through when you feel like you have a thousand things to do and very little time to do it!
I'm also a big fan of the to do list @Tim Richter. I have gone a step further since reading Jocko Willink's book, and now prioritize the list as well, especially on really stressful days.
I've found that the most stressful items on the list are also usually the ones with the highest priority, so it's kind of like killing two birds with one stone - check off a thing that is causing the stress and checking off a item on my list just feels good.
If things are really crazy, I'll eventually just drop everything and go to the gym where they have a heavy bag set up. Pull out the boxing gloves, and go to town. It's amazing what a few minutes with the bag will do to clear the mind and take some of the edge off!
@Jack Bobeck that’s some really important advice. I hadn’t really thought that I could become the my stress, but I suppose it’s true. I agree also that one needs to find an outlet or they will become consumed. Thanks for the post!
@Ken Nyczaj good advice! I’m just starting out so my team is still in the building process. But bouncing ideas around can be very helpful. Thanks for your response!
Tim, When I get overwhelmed (happens all the time) I try to focus on accomplishing one thing, and then move on to the next and then the next. If you try and focus on everything that needs completed, and do a little bit of each, you will never accomplish anything. Start by completing one thing that you have control over like cleaning up the job site, then make a punch list of each room, then go pick up misc materials from your punch list. With each item you complete one small step, and work your way up to the bigger items. It will help organize your thoughts.
Every big task is made up of little tasks. You have to stop looking at the big picture and just look at the next thing in front of you that needs to be done, do it, and keep on moving forward. And then every once in a while take a look back and see what you have already accomplished. Remember, if all of us dingbats (I think I can still use that word and the PC police haven't taken away our rights), have done it, no reason you can't do it too! Just keep moving forward.
There will be days when you get your nards kicked into your throat , on such occasions you will need a heavy dose of “why “power ( not will power) because will power doesn’t last and may not be enough on some horrific days where everything goes smash (and they will come ). You must take a breather and remember your “ why” to get your focus and perspective back on track .
