My goals for 2020. What are yours?

One the things I learned from BP that I love the most is the goal setting for the new year. My fiance and I started this last year and really enjoyed it, for not only personal goals but couple goals. So what is everyone's goals for the next year?

Mine are the following:

1. Read 52 books. I attempted this goal last year and really enjoyed it. I got to 30 which I was actually very happy with. It forced me to develop a skill and I learned a lot about different things in the process.

2. Purchase 2 more rental properties. I set the goal for last year to purchase one and was able to achieve this through a partnership. I want to use the stack method now and continue to grow my portfolio.

3. Run a marathon. I was able to run my first half last year, which was a big accomplish as I had never ran before. I signed up for a marathon, but did not train the way I need to so I did not attempted after receiving some advice that I could really injury myself. Very much looking forward to achieving this one.

4. Double my sales as an agent. This is similar to the stack method on the portfolio. I know that if I continue to increase my sales that it will allow me to other things like expand my portfolio.

5. Have at least one date a week with my fiance. We are in the early stages of wedding planning along with her starting a new career so we have every excuses as why to not make this happen. That is why this one is the most important to me. I must carve out time every week for her and make it my most important thing I do!

I can't wait to see what I learn as I pursue each of these goals! 2019 was a blast of a year and I can't wait to make 2020 even better. What is everyone else goals? Looking to learn a new skill? Add more properties to the portfolio? Or even just be more presence in every day?

    5. Payoff $2500 in credit card debt, pour a concrete patio in the back yard and redo our master bath

Do y’all have habit goals in addition to accomplishment goals?

#2 means that to accomplish #1 I have to buy 2,000 units.  That's double what I bought in 2019 so we'll see what the market provides.  If there isn't opportunity, I'm perfectly fine if I buy 0 units in 2020.

Super excited if you come out with a book Brian. I want to be one of the first 100 to read it!

I'm still largely rebooting things after a lengthy and nasty divorce, but I have a few lofty goals for 2020:

    Business

    1.  Restart RealStarter with a new business model to fix the accredited lead generation problems our fragmented capital markets have.  Allow sponsors and syndicators to access the capital markets the same way that larger concerns do utilizing new securities exemptions and technology.  Refactor software in line with engineering as marketing traction model and complete rollout with target alpha group of sponsors

    2.  Lock down a 350-unit residential complex in Manor one of the members of my Board owns the parcels for.  Pilot capital raise for development in phases on RealStarter capital raise accredited crowdfunding infrastructure

    3.  Start my first commercial development project.  This will probably be a bar/restaurant deal we sell out to a local operator I have developed a relationship with over the last several months

    Personal

    4.  Live life in line with my current intentions and tune my calendar with my assistant to structure my days in accordance with my intentions.  Cluster time around PIES development - Physical, intellectual, emotional, and spritual

    5.  Broaden relationship with my girlfriend, kids, and aging parents.  Family FIRST!

    6.  Finish The Old Testament reading I have underway

    7.  Drop to 15% body fat.  I've had a great time in 2019, but my health was better starting the year than it is now.  Get MRI and fix ailing left shoulder

    8.  Continue emotional development work across many content channels, but specifically complete The Reboot Podcast series

    @Jon Hill

I think my biggest goal for 2020 is to purchase my first rental property. Yes, I’m a newbie, but we are all new at some point.

This is a great forum post, stating goals always seems to improve the odds of them becoming accomplishments!

Good idea on the fiance thing, if you want your marriage to last it'll take more time and work than investing.

This year in August I decided to make having 1 unit by years end my goal. Did that and got another under contract which we would close on before year end if not for some minor issues.

    1) Acquire at least 3 more single family units or a duplex and single family.

    2) Have made my first seller finance deal.

    3) Have bought my first mobile home park.

    4) Get my 450lb atlas stone off the ground.

    5) Hire someone to fill my position in my current business so I can focus more on real estate

    6) Finish RE license and have sold at least 3 houses. (The license is something I just wanted to try for. Started in December and have the class scheduled... more a curiosity than a true career goal but figure after selling 3 houses I will have some idea on how far to go with it.)

@Jon Hill I love the topic of goal setting! Being newly married (our 1 year was on December 15th) I can see the importance of carving out time to work on the relationship. Looking back over 2019, I wish I would have done that; whether it is a date night at a restaurant, a picnic in a local park, a road trip, etc.

    My goals for 2020 are:

    1. Flip 3 houses with a minimum of $15,000 profit each

    2. Build back up my emergency fund ($2000)

    3. Pay off all credit card debt

    4. Pay off both my wife's and my car.

    5. Build relationships with at least 5 private money partners to be ready for whatever the upcoming election does or doesn't do to my local market!

    6. Get back down to 10% body fat. I completely let myself go after bulking last winter.

    7. This should be number 1 really, but I like the idea of a weekly or biweekly date night as well.

    My 2020 goals

    1) complete and finalize the sell of my insurance agency to transition to a full time real estate investor

    2) get to $50k in gross rent per month ASAP (currently right at $37,500)

    3) flip or build new construction and sell 4 properties at an average net profit of $30k to make $120k on flips/new builds in the year

It's a small list, but I'm laser focused on each of these three things !

@Frankie Paterno Those are some awesome goals for being new. I love it! You are helping yourself learn by looking for a mentor and reading while really getting after your real estate goals. Wish you the best of luck with them and can’t wait to hear about them. Also I am happy to help however I can even if that is just to bounce ideas off or run the numbers!

@Robert Arquilla Five a month is awesome! Do you plan to read all of them or listen to some audio books as well? Audio books have really allowed me to consume a lot more information with time I would normal just waste in the car. The date is huge. I know I get all excited for the new year and focus a lot on myself and my business. That time with your significant other is the biggest reason I do this stuff, along with that I love it! I am curious to see what you have thought of already for the additional $100. Are you thinking real estate related or things like Uber or lift where it is more involved?

@Veronica DeSalvo That is awesome goal. My fiancé and I actually got started that way. I think it really allows you to leverage smaller amount of money with the loan options while cutting down if not all of your housing expense and you get some hands on landlord experience. Do you guys have a property type and area picked out?

I like to make yearly goals in each area of my life but here I will share only some of my real estate goals for 2020:

    1. Sell 19% of one of my real estate companies for 400K.
    2. Separate my business finances better by taking 250k of that money and pay off business debt from my other businesses that I have used to fund the acquisition of properties in my main real estate business.
    3. Use the other 150k to continue purchasing properties in the Triad area of North Carolina.
    4. Purchase 36 single family properties (24 in Greensboro, Winston-Salem, and High Point, and 12 in Arizona) and lease them out using the lease option strategy.
    5. Purchase a 30 pad mobile home park with 10 units already rented and an additional 20 pads available to rent out, improve advertising and double the value of the park and basically BRRRR the mobile home park.
    6. Go on the Investor Summit at Sea real estate cruise with the Real Estate Guys, Robert Helms and Russell Grey.
    7. Bring on one or two more assistants to lighten our work load and systematize our businesses better.
    8. Appear on 10 more podcasts to increase brand awareness in order to raise money for our real estate deals.
    9. Get 20 new real estate coaching clients and help them acquire their first, second, or third property.
    10. Increase cash flow by another 5k this year.

@Ana M. Awesome goals! You have a lot going out with graduating and looking to buy. I think having that agent is a great idea because you can leverage their skills and experience for free. I haven’t worked with anyone who has used the 203k loan but I know it is great for first timers provided you are willing to put in the work. I also liked that with everything going on you aren’t forcing yourself to make a purchase just to buy. I see a lot of people say they need to buy so they buy a bad deal, so that is smart. You also know that if you don’t get it don’t this year you will make sure you do the next year. Best of luck with them all and can’t wait to hear about them!

@Pedro Ramirez That is a great goal. We all had to start somewhere so don’t worry. Make sure you learn as much as you can from BP. Its a great place to run ideas past people to make sure you are buying something that makes sense. Best of luck and can’t wait to hear how it goes!

@Nathan Shankles Awesome goals. Best of luck with grad school! What is your masters in? I love the whole selling piece as you and your wife will both benefit from it! Best of luck with all of them and can’t wait to hear how they go!

I have two big habit goals. One is to do the miracle morning at lest 5 days a week. I was pretty close to this last year but missed more than I would have liked to. It really allows me to get my day off to the right start. The second is to leave work at the office when I go home. With being agent all to many times I bring my work home with me and I know I don’t need to. I need to be more presence with my family and allow myself to relax which is much easier said then done!
