I recently joined bigger pockets as an agent, I am looking to learn from those who are more experienced in the investing field. I got out of the military a little over a year and a half ago to pursue being a Realtor. It has been a great learning experience and I am very excited to take it to the next level by diving into the investment side of real estate!

@Shayne Steiner welcome bro! Active duty Marine stationed in CA. Glad you are here. I started investing again in 2018 after losing my portfolio from the recession. Happy to help where I can. Best of luck moving forward as an agent.

    @Doug Spence Thank you I appreciate it! Yes Myrtle Beach is my market, I lived here for about 10 years before the military and decided to move back after I separated! I really appreciate the offer. Hope the Navy is treating you well! What area do you focus on investing in?

    Hey Shayne! Welcome to BiggerPockets and thanks for joining!

    Here are some tips for networking and making the most of your account.

    1) I'd fill out your profile fully before you do anything else! As that will at least help folks that you reach out to know that you are a real person, with a picture and professional bio. Particularly be sure to include your goals for real estate investing so that folks can help you.

    2) Go to the Search bar, and look for some local members in your area! Reach out to a few of the folks, perhaps those with hundreds or thousands of posts in this forum, and connect. You can do that here.

    3) Check out some of the local meetups that you can find in this forum! There are so many so be sure to filter by your location.

    4) Review this comprehensive 64 page deck on the state of the 2023 housing market (in your resource page as a member of BiggerPockets!) for real estate investors put together by Dave Meyer and available for all BiggerPockets members.

    5) Consider meeting with a few agents in your area even if you are just getting started! An investor friendly agent can do all sorts of helpful things, like setting you up with a search for properties or connecting you with folks who have recently done deals like the ones you want to do.

    6) Consider analyzing a deal or two in your local market, just for practice, with a free use of our Rental Property Calculator (or other calculators).

    @Shayne Steiner Navy life is good - I've been active duty for a little over 14 years now. Currently, I'm focused on RV parks, but most of my real estate experience has been in single-family homes in a few markets around the country (Pensacola, Milwaukee, OKC, Tulsa). I've done 2 BRRRR's and 2 flips in Oklahoma - all while living in San Diego. I'm also a LP in a few syndications and I'm a GP on an RV park syndication fund.

    As a vet, you have one of the most valuable investing tools out there in a VA loan benefit, it's a great jump start to an investing career.

    I'm sure you'll kill it as an agent too. The work ethic most vets have puts them far above the rest of us lazy civilians.

    Welcome to the investing side! Is very exciting and one where you get to be more “creative”, there is not one side fits all, every deal is different!

    I am Active Duty Air Force and also a Mortgage Broker, as @Corby Goade mentioned I like to help our brothers and sisters in arms use their VA Loan to jump start their real estate portfolio, it is really a great benefit!

    If you ever have clients, or yourself, needing financing on investment properties let me know, I have loan products for every situation with great rates!
