Hello Everyone, I am new in the real estate investing business, and I was wondering if it would be worth taking a course and hiring a coach. I want to gain as much knowledge before investing in real estate properties. I am in talks with a coach that offers a two-day intensive that cost 3,000 and one on-site training at an actual property. Has anyone taken one of these courses and would you recommend taking these courses?

Hello @Account Closed I'm sure several people will give opinions on this but I had originally signed up for one of those classes before finding Bigger Pockets and I must say the money that I saved I used towards my 1st property. In my opinion this group has all the information that you need. Read the forms and watch as many as the webinars as you can. Become and pro member, it's way cheaper than any coaching class. I'm fairly new myself but without BP I would have never felt comfortable enough to start my investing career. Hope this helps.

@Bijou Diaou no need to pay when you have everything you need to know about investing right here at your finger tips. I’m learning and new also, but have patients. It’s a process, saving up and building credit and reading a book is what I’m doing to take a stab at my real estate future . Who knows you may save the money quickly and run across something. I feel like putting in the work being active on here and reading, once you start your first deal it’s going to come natural. Also a little overwhelming, but that’s what BP is for. Message people on here, reach out and build rapport with people. Tell them what your trying to do, and don’t give up.

Depends. How do you like to learn? There is nothing revolutionary in said course. All of the information they can tell you is out there in the public (for free) on sites like this one, Youtube and others. Do you want to save the money and research it all on your own or do you want it all neatly wrapped up and presented to you over 2 days?

@Bijou Diaou I wouldn't do it, I learn better by doing. I read a bunch of articles books and listened to podcasts at an insane rate of at least 5 a day. I was actively trying to do deals while I was learning since about September of last year and didn't get a deal until March of this year. I have learned things from each of these actions. But if you're the type to need a teacher to learn then you should pay for the coaching.

Do not expect to have a complete understanding of real estate investing. It's a lifetime of learning. You can find out just about everything you need to know on this website but it would take literally years to cover all the content here. Read a few books, listen to podcasts, read the blogs, etc. You'll be good to start and then continue to learn as you go.

@Bijou Diaou Yes you need to learn because there’s more to real estate investing then people think just make sure you’re not wasting your money personally i don’t think anyone should be charging people for something that’s free

I want to add that if you're interested in rental properties, then get a copy of your state's landlord/tenant handbook or whatever they call it. It's VERY IMPORTANT that you be familiar with your local laws. And every state is different.

Absolutely not! Hang out around here and learn for free. I listen to podcasts for free all the time. My favorite one is Coach (Chad) Carson. He has excellent podcasts for SFRs. Bigger pocket podcasts are great too! Good luck.

No. The majority of the time in the two day course will be them trying to upsell you to their $20k-$40k higher level of training and coaching......not them teaching you much of anything.

If you are serious, you will meet people that will teach you a lot, will guide you, and recommend you to other people. Ultimately is your money, so you can invest it or send it to a "known" REI pro. You can learn a lot here, for free, or paying the pro version of this. It really helps new people in REI, mainly the one that are starting or are looking for deals.

so, forgot to tell, I have never paid someone for teaching me REI. And if you are OK with business in general (say that bike that you used for 5 years, cost you $70, sold it for $50) and figuring our things yourself, you should be in good shape.

@Bijou Diaou if you take 1 to 2 months to read all the blogs here that you can and listen to a podcast or 2 a day then you’ll probably know just about everything you need to get started.
Set up a meeting with a RE attorney and a RE CPA. After that you’ll be golden.

Is it worth taking -A- class for two days and having -A- coach on ONE property? ... and then, you're on your own?
Would you rather have lifetime access to ten classes on-line, on-demand and a community of active local investors? ... and still have money left over? (the Tax and Legal Class alone is two 8-hour days)

Not worth it. ( luckily I had that same dilemma years ago) And I realized in order to succeed in this business, my mind needs to be right. So first I will suggest, read as much as you can. Start hearing BP podcast (if you want, start at show 250) hear them all!! And I guarantee you it will build you confidence 100% and in no time you will be investing. Also, Buy and read all books referred on the (famous four section) .
Trust me I know you want this asap. but in the long run, you will save more money and time like this tha paying 3000 for a weekend.
So, key tips;
-Go to local meetups (as much as you can) and they are FREE!!

I spent $2500 on a three-day course and I don’t regret it.
Yes, I absolutely could have learned this all on my own with BP, books, podcasts, etc. But, I really liked spending the dedicated three days in this. Had I not done that, I might still be planning.
Now, if I didn’t have the money, I probably would have done things differently.

@Bijou Diaou let me first say that I offer similar training and coaching and am also a product of the product as I have paid coaches and mentors.
The money you spend is relative to how badly you want the knowledge.
If you are willing to do whatever it takes to put their principles into action then your results will prove successful.
If you don’t follow the process or aren’t willing to put in the work then results will vary.
Either way it is worth taking a training if nothing else to identify that you don’t want to go that route so you don’t waste time with a strategy OR you may find this is the training that unlocks EVERYTHING for you.
My advice is read all the books and take all the courses as long as you are committed to growing and they don’t interfere with getting the work done.

Me personally I wouldn’t. You can make that 3k work for you In another way. You can also go to the bigger pockets conference which is cheaper and most likely going to be better.
