Need Advice on California B-2 RMO Setup + Looking for an RMO

Hi all,

I’m starting a residential remodeling business in California and need to obtain a B-2 contractor license, but neither owner currently has the 4 years of qualifying experience required by CSLB.

We are exploring bringing on an RMO (Responsible Managing Officer) and would appreciate advice from anyone who has done this.

Also open to speaking directly with anyone who is currently serving as an RMO or knows someone qualified.

Looking for input on:

  • - How are RMO agreements typically structured?
  • - What is normal compensation?
  • - How involved does the RMO need to be to stay CSLB compliant?
  • - Where are people finding legitimate RMOs?
  • - What legal/business risks should we watch for?
