Septic tank rules in Lease?

For those with septic tanks, have you put any specific wording into your lease agreement about proper septic tank care (no flushing things other than tank approved TP)

Yes, but you really should have plumbing specs in any lease even one connected to sewer. You want some special protection for tanks, to be sure, but a lot of the specifics pertain both ways.

Stating what's prohibited w/o stating penalties, makes it harder for accountability.

Also, may leave it up to a judge's interpretation.

@Anthony Bailey Disposable wipes are NOT.  Add those to the prohibited, along with rice, coffee grounds, bones, and any food waste, as well as female products.  Around here most municipalities require routine septic pumping.  One pumper told me he was pumping a septic and discovered condoms and informed the owner that those should not flush them.  The owner protested and said I don't use condoms, I had a vascetomy!

Absolutely. In addition to @Janice Carters comments, specify "septic safe,surfactant-free detergent." Also clearly identify the leach field and the tank access cover, to ensure no digging, no driving across, and readily accessible for pumping if needed. The only acceptable product to flush is toilet tissue.

Yes, definitely include a septic addendum. Clearly outline what can and can’t be flushed, prohibit grease disposal and state that tenant caused issues will be their responsibility. It helps prevent costly repairs and sets clear expectations upfront.
