Looking for long distance management ideas

I live in California and own single-family houses in Johns Creek and Alpharetta, Georgia. I'm considering turning them into short-term rentals, but I'm unsure how to manage the cleaning team from a long distance. Has anyone successfully managed short-term rentals from afar? If I decide to hand it over to other companies for management, I'm concerned about losing at least 8% of the profits. I'm open to any advice. Thank you!

What's the size of your properties? To @Trent Reeve's point, not every property and not every sub-market is a great fit for STR.
