Whos doing short term rentals in Sarasota

Hey BP community.

Who is doing STR in the Sarasota area? What is working and what is not?

My wife and I are flying down in a few weeks to check out a few places up and down the gulf coast. Would love to connect or find a little meet up group while we are visiting in early March.

Currently we have a $7million portfolio consisting of some small multifamily and some Beach Condos up here in Maryland. So we aren't new investors. But I have strong ties to Florida and we plan to move down this way in the next two years. We thought it was only fitting to start doing some investing in the area.

@Andrew Steffens is spot on here. He's incredibly knowledgeable on the STR landscape across Tampa Bay and does a great job helping investors navigate the local regulations and performance trends and it's worth connecting with him.

As far as meetups go, shoot me a DM with the dates you'll be down. I have an investor friend that goes to meetups in Sarasota and can find out which they recommend.

    @Richard Forton I do not have anything in Sarasota proper at the moment but have been researching a lot for a couple clients as of late.  I have managed in just about every adjoining municipality and Sarasota has a complicated patchwork of rules/regulations.  Also on the more macro level the statistics are better a little more north.  Are you 100% set on Sarasota proper of the area in general?

    I'm in Florida for the next few months, so this would be a cool event to attend. When is it? Is there a BP Event for this?

    I have looked at Sarasota a few times and the STR rules are a bit cumbersome. Anna Maria is of course next door with large price tags that diminish returns.

    Have you thought about going a tad north towards Pinellas county? Rules are much more clear cut and returns are extremely strong if you follow the right formula. @Josh Green is the local STR expert who owns several high performing properties and manages 20+. I would highly suggest connecting with him if you want to learn more about the area.
