Hosts, what’s that one small gesture you do that makes your guests feel really special?

Drinks and snacks have not gotten any mention in reviews but am sure they help with the initial impression. Being very clean is huge. But it all starts way before that with design. Simple things like changing out all the light switches and outlets. It gives a good feeling right away. All those small psychological feeling build up for a positive experience and might even overcome some small issue if handled well to salvage a 5 star review

A local weekly newspaper, a local city magazine, a fresh bowl of fruit and a tray with 2 bottles of PNW wine (first one complimentary, envelope for 2nd).Also, a personal "meet and greet" and a quick 4 minute tour to answer all questions.

We get a lot of family groups.  I've had guests thank me for supplying charging stations by every bed and 2 in the living room, and also for having a clean and uncluttered house without a lot of knick-knacks that could be broken by kids.

We do provide a nice welcome box full of snacks and drinks. I help get them a boat to rent if they want, bike rentals if they want and send them out to the Emerald Creek Garnet area about a hour in the Idaho wilderness to hunt for garnets which is super fun.

For us, the key is communication and giving a damn about their stay. They have my cell and can call or text me if they need anything anytime.

Having a well stocked home is super important. A kitchen setup with all sorts of pots and pans with 40 spices and seasonings in the cupboard is one of our things and we get compliments on it all the time.

Not nickel and dimeing the guests to death. Our place sleeps 10, but if they have 12, we can accommodate that easily. I don't charge for that. We are hosting 16 people this summer. 3 families with a lot of kids. No problem. No charge.

We feel really lucky to own a lake front place and I want to make sure families that want a nice vacation can get it without going broke. Not many can have a water front place so I like sharing it with people.
