Riley Iris Introduction - Learning, Saving, and Researching Markets
Hello! My name is Riley Iris and I am a 24 year old living in Big Sky, Montana. I am working as a low level property manager for a private residential club and looking to start my real estate portfolio in 2027. I have been listening to the BP podcasts, reading business and real estate books, and talking to people in my network to try and learn as much as I can about real estate investing while I build capital over the next year.
My brother and I plan to go into this venture together. My brother works for a high end renovation company in the Portland, Maine area as a carpenter, so down the road we are considering using his expertise to try our hand at flipping. That being said, we think the best course of action would be to start by finding a few multi-family rentals that cash flow to build a strong base.
Given our current income levels and prices in our local markets, it seems like our best chance at finding deals would be outside of our local markets, however I'm not exactly sure where to start looking. I'd like to start out by researching markets with a median home price below $300,000, positive population growth and positive job growth. What sort of tools/websites can I use to find these markets? Is it too early for me to connect with a real estate agent? Can an agent help me look at markets across the country, or will I need to connect with local agents in each market?
I am so excited to join this community, and to learn and grow as a real estate investor! Thank you in advance for any advice and I look forward to connecting!
