Colorado House Hacker Looking to Grow into Multifamily Investing

Colorado House Hacker Looking to Grow into Multifamily Investing

Member since 2026 · 1 post · 2 votes

Hey everyone, glad to be here. My name is Chipper Leech, and I’m based in the Arvada, Colorado area.

My background is in construction and project management, primarily managing commercial and electrical projects. I currently work as a Construction Project Manager and also run my own company, JRL Construction LLC. My experience includes budgeting, scheduling, subcontractor coordination, estimating, permit management, and overseeing projects from pre-construction through closeout.

I’m newer to the real estate investing side, but I’m actively building toward long-term multifamily ownership. Right now, I’m studying for my Colorado real estate license while house hacking in Arvada. My goal is to continue scaling into additional multifamily properties and eventually larger value-add investments across Colorado.

I joined Bigger Pockets

to connect with other investors, learn from experienced operators, and build relationships with people who are actively investing in the Denver market and mountain communities.

I’m especially interested in:

  • House hacking strategies
  • Multifamily acquisitions
  • BRRRR/value-add projects
  • Creative financing
  • Networking with local investors, agents, lenders, and contractors

Looking forward to learning from everyone here and contributing where I can. Happy to connect with anyone investing in Colorado.

    @James Leech

    Hey James, welcome! Sounds like you’ve got a really solid background already with the construction and project management side. That experience is a huge advantage when it comes to underwriting deals, managing rehabs, and spotting opportunities most people miss.

    I’m based here in Denver as well and lead The FI Team at eXp. We’re heavily focused on helping investors, house hackers, and people scaling into multifamily and creative finance. I personally own 10 properties and have been investing for about 10 years now across house hacks, STRs, mid-term rentals, and co-living setups.

    A lot of what you mentioned aligns with what we help clients and agents with every day:

    • House hacking

    • BRRRRs/value add projects

    • Creative financing

    • Multifamily strategy

    • Deal structuring and analysis

    One thing I’ve learned is there’s no need to reinvent the wheel in this business. Having the right people around you can massively shorten the learning curve.

    Also, we’re always looking to add growth-minded agents to our team. If you’re looking to learn strategies for your own investing while also helping others do the same, we’re the number one investor-friendly agent team in Denver and have built a great community around that.

    Happy to connect sometime over coffee or at one of our meetups. Always good getting more solid investor-minded people in the Denver network.

    You’re actually in a strong position already with your construction and PM background, that’s one of the biggest advantages you can have going into multifamily because you already understand costs, timelines, and contractor management. House hacking is a solid way to start since it lets you learn investing while reducing your living expenses, and from there, you can naturally scale into BRRRR or value-add multifamily once you see how deals perform in real life. Colorado can work, but a lot of investors in your stage also compare it with Midwest markets, where entry prices are lower, and it’s easier to stack doors and build experience faster before moving into higher-cost metros or larger value-add plays.

    Welcome to BP, Chipper. Your construction and PM background is a huge advantage, most investors spend years learning the rehab, budgeting, and contractor side that you already live in every day.

    House hacking is a great foundation, especially in a higher-cost market like Colorado. As you move into multifamily and non-owner occupied deals, just know the financing and reserve requirements change pretty quickly, so it’s worth understanding that side early before scaling.

    Sounds like you’re on a solid path already. Feel free to reach out anytime happy to connect and help.

    @James Leech

    You’re ahead of the game, you’re coming from a good place, with your construction and project management background being an enormous asset in underwriting renovations and executing value-add strategies. House hacking in Arvada on your way to multifamily is an excellent strategy, particularly because you already know more about budgets, schedules, and working with contractors than most other newbies in the space.

    Good luck!
