I've been wondering lately if the American people would rise up and fight for ANYTHING? My personal opinion is that the American people would give up every single right they have (including their property) and become virtual slaves to a socialist/communist/fascist government without any fight whatsoever (or has that ship already sailed).
Is there ANYTHING that YOU would fight for? Anything at all?
For full disclosure, I did not read the entire thread..... Politics gets boring. Too many viewpoints, not much in the way of facts
here are some facts
As a young man I served in the USMC. I was an infantryman in Desert Storm. We were ordered to go out and do terriable things to young men just like ourselves, it was our duty. We all took the oath. We all wanted to be there.
In the name of my wife and children, I would do much worse to any involved, with a smile on my face......
I know a Vietnam jarhead, he was with 1/9, the walking dead. Those guys know what a bad day really is.
We spoke about Mrs Neopalatiano and her singleing out of Vet's as a threat.
His comment was. " that is the only person in DC that understands what a threat is", LOL
We are blessd as a country. Go to the Westbank and ask this question.
I think a lot of people are fighting but they are not represented at biggerpockets, and those who are, are not going to post on public messageboards. probably most people don't want to list where they would draw the line and what they would fight for because they are or are not prepared and would rather not share that information publicly on the internet.
Based on all these posts, I think the consensus is that absolutely nothing is worth fight for (except your immediate family). They could take away all of our rights and everyone would just go along with it. I guess I shouldn't be surprised, that's exactly what happened in Nazi Germany and the people just went along with it.
Mike
Mike,
I strongly believe in fighting for our rights and I believe they are quickly being taken away from us by a deceptive administration. I wish we could storm D.C and remove the socialists, but it doesn't work that way. We have to fight peacefully. Believe me, it takes everything in my power to keep from running every car with an O bumper sticker off the road. I am SO angry that people are SO blinded right now. I will continue to "fight" by attending rallies, TEA parties, writing my representatives, VOTING and trying to educate people. It's unbelievable how many people out there don't vote because they "don't have a preference." Well, they're gonna have a preference after it's too late. As for the drones, they're drones and there's nothing we can do about it. I've probably said too much...
So, you're saying John McCain is a liar?
Okay, I can believe that. Glad he didn't become President...we sure don't need a liar in office... :)
we already have one, Obama. sorry to disappoint. his record of integrity is not exactly stellar. we're depending on hope, remember?
If YOUR president disappoints you, by all means you should vote against him next election, Shana...
Now, since you talk about WE... is Big O YOUR president? If not, who exactly is WE?
I wholeheartedly agree with you and I am doing exactly what you are doing. Attending tea parties; trying to educate people; becoming even more active politically than I have been in the past to try to protect our freedoms; writing to my congressmen and other political leaders, etc are all things I am doing.
However, that is not my question. The question is whether there is ANYTHING worth actually fighting for and if so, what is it? In an extreme example, if they started rounding up and executing all the Jews, would you write your congressman or would you take up your gun and FIGHT? What would be the sign that it's time to stop talking and start fighting. For our forefathers, it was that they didn't want to be controlled by the British: "no taxation without representation." For most of the people in Nazi Germany, there never was anything that told them it was time to fight Hitler!
Is the ANYTHING worth FIGHTING for and if so, what is it?
Thank you Debbie for a straightforward answer! Yes, I would be ready to fight to defend and preserve our constitution and swore as much when I was in the military. Obviously, we're a long way from a physical fight at this point. Our Freedoms are still intact and as Tim said, we're currently making some gains on 2nd Amendment issues precisely because The Chosen One is intent on destroying the country and our way of life.
How about everyone else? Is there ANYTHING that would be worth fighting for? If so, what?
Yes! I am asking is there ANYTHING here in the US that you personally would be willing to fight for? If you aren't American, is there any freedom in your country (if you have any freedoms left) that would be worth risking your life for?
Debbie,
What rights, and we need specific examples here, are being taken away by the current administration? Are they the same ones that were taken away by Bush that caused millions to move up to Canada?
Mike,
My answer is on p.7 on the thread. Short answer, yes, I, and I believe almost all Americans, will fight for their individual rights. As long as everyone is looking out for their selves and loved ones, nobody will have anything taken from them.
I will continue to "fight" by attending rallies, TEA parties, writing my representatives, VOTING and trying to educate people.
I have to say the first time I've ever attended any kind of protest was the Tea party. The amusing part was none of us really knew "how" to protest. It's un-reported but the Tea parties (according to Guiness) were the largest single coordinated protest in the entire history of the United States.
There's one other thing I would fight for. I would fight to forcibly remove a President IF it was proven he had a forged birth certificate and was Constitutionally ineligible to be in power.
You have a 2nd Amendment right to keep and bear arms. Would you FIGHT if the government decided to take your guns? They didn't fight in Australia or Canada!
Yes! I am asking is there ANYTHING here in the US that you personally would be willing to fight for? If you aren't American, is there any freedom in your country (if you have any freedoms left) that would be worth risking your life for?

for the most part Canada goes along with USA and everything USA does affects us. I might be moving to USA in the future.
I would fight for my family and loved ones no questions asked. I would fight to preserve our way of life and freedom. guns are a last resort if all else fails but they are not out of the question. I am working very hard to try to make sure it doesn't come down to guns. educating the masses, preparing for sustainability, trying to influence politicians, preparing for the future. my family has a specific plan in such a case and we have for generations.
Chris,
You have a 2nd Amendment right to keep and bear arms. Would you FIGHT if the government decided to take your guns? They didn't fight in Australia or Canada!
not with guns... not yet. the "gun registry" which was a useless excuse for a gun program was thrown out with the next election. and was laughed at throughout the process and forever afterward because it was completely ineffective, expensive, worthless and apparently impossible for the government to achieve. I think the general population did not cooperate. we didn't need to fight. the government was ineffective.
Debbie,
What rights, and we need specific examples here, are being taken away by the current administration? Are they the same ones that were taken away by Bush that caused millions to move up to Canada?
1) My right to choose my health care and my doctor is in jeopardy.
2) My right to reap the benefits of my hard work. I do not work to support lazy underachievers. I should not be ashamed of being successful.
3) My right to feel safe in my own country. Now we're reading Miranda rights to terrorists?!? Good Lord!
4) My right to bear arms. If he has his way, the 2nd Amendment will be obliterated.
5) Companies rights to set the salaries for their OWN executives. Since when did the Constitution give government control over private sector business? And I'm not talking about bailout bums.
I could go on...
Bush wasn't the best, but he wasn't a socialist, either. And, the people who moved to Canada probably belong there anyway
Freedom Free will/Free Thought weather it is yours your loved ones or your enemies it is worth fighting for.
I maintain that by fighting for I mean in the same way as your quote.
Yes arm yourselves it's your constitutional right but, the idea of group's of individuals getting together talking about what is essentially a revolution will only empower the Gov. to swiftly wipe our rights/"privileges" away.
Doing so would play directly into the hand of those who's agendas is to control.
It's not enough for us to simply vote write our congressman and attend demonstrations though we have to find the solutions and implement them whether it take months years or decades.
That is what I am doing I'm speaking with the IMF, France's sovereign wealth fund
and studying macroeconomics globally as someone pointed out we are only 5% of the population of this world.
I believe it is in our best interests to have our own privately ran Sovereign Wealth Fund if we had took the 2 T $ we have squandered in so called bailouts & stimulus and invested that in emerging markets our balance sheet would be looking a lot better.
We would be creating those who would invest in us instead of turning to communist China.
What would people have said if 30 years ago if you were saying communists would be bailing out the US in 2008/9?
I propose we set goals plan and implement sustainable change by taking back control of our money saving and investing.
If we do not we will lose this war for our country there are those out there with other plans.
As a Canadian (Floor Trader and employer of 13,000 Americans) I was speaking to a couple months ago so eloquently put it. The plan is to FU*K things up so bad in the USA we will be begging for whatever "solution" is offered to us.
I should mention that there is no shame in preparing the next generation of political leaders, media, lawyers, business leaders, etc etc from our political leanings en masse because it was done in Canada (to the left) and it certainly has affected our culture dramatically. all leadership in society, with a planned agenda. why are we sleeping idly by when the rest of them are making plans (funded by our socialist tax dollars). its not just for today but for the future and an ongoing thing. when people caught what was going on I have never seen so many people fired up to make a difference and get out there into the industries that will shape our culture.
You have a 2nd Amendment right to keep and bear arms. Would you FIGHT if the government decided to take your guns? They didn't fight in Australia or Canada!
Definitely. Whether or not I choose to keep a gun in my home, it was determined long ago by men much smarter than I that it is my right to have one, or several. FWIW, the only gun I have any ownership of is my grandpop's service pistol from WWII. Made by the Remington typewriter company. So it has a lot of sentimental value along with still being a damn fine pistol.
As for Aussies and Canucks, that's their problem.

1. Hasn't happened, and well, most people with health insurance have no choice than what is provided through their employer, and individual policies do often have restrictions on which doctors, clinics, and hospitals (for non-emergency care) that the insured can use.
2. You've been supporting the lazy underachievers ever since you drew your first check. Has nothing to do with the Obama admin.
3. How the hell can you possible define the right to "feel safe?" I feel completely safe. Spare us the paranoia. If you drive a car, you're far more likely to die from that than you are to be a victim of a terror attack.
4. Really? We're going on hypothetical suppositions now? What has Obama done as far as gun rights are concerned since he has been in office? The fact that gun and ammo sales have gone way up only means that people have bought more. It doesn't mean that the 2nd Amendment has been stripped.
5. When the government has to prop those businesses up, they are no longer in the private sector. I don't follow that stuff much so I don't know if Obama has proposed limiting executive pay for companies that have received no financial assistance from Uncle Sugar. If he has, that really sucks, and #5 would be your first valid point.
And finally, nobody moved to Canada. Lots said they would because Bush and the Patriot Act were supposedly stripping our individual rights, but nothing changed, and nobody left.
another method of fighting that no one has brought up is to join the opposition party, give time or money, or work to influence the next election. obama is already working on bringing in more immigrants to vote for him if anyone noticed.
what the USA needs is strong leadership. regardless of which avenue you come from. to influence the future. if you can win over the current administration on issues it is the shortest fastest route. but some issues may not be resolved that way. I will leave it up to Americans to figure this one out for yourselves.
my major issue is economic policy. Canada has our act together on that one and it appears as if Europe is leaning to the right too. lowering taxes, not spending, not borrowing, is what is working.
here's something worth fighting for, making sure Obama doesn't bankrupt the world!!! :)
J Scott if you are willing to keep your fearless leader in line on the above issue, I will put up with him for now... as long as he doesn't do anything else insane...
here's something worth fighting for, making sure Obama doesn't bankrupt the world!!!
or even just the USA... that would be tragic. I am sure the Americans would survive anything because you guys are tough. but let's not let it get anywhere near that.
