Questions on using a project manager?

Is a project manager essential/required on a rehab. Wanting to do a flip with hard money. I can identify a deal but I am a busy person & don't have time to watch weekly that tasks are being completed. I would rather check in to a project manager to make sure things are being completed on a timely manner. My question is how do you find a project manager and how do you compensate them on a rehab?? Do I need to check references. And does everyone use them if you are not a rehabber yourself? And what are any red flags I should be aware of?? Thanks kindly appreciate any feedback. Also can a project manager fill out a scope of work and I just sign off on it would that be wise since they would know better?
