Question about Mechanic Liens

I was having a conversation with my buddy and the topic of mechanic liens come up, where a contractor can file a lien and it can attach to your property

So it got me curious and I started researching.  I don’t plan on ever not paying someone for work done, but if they do a hack job or some reason where I’m forced to not pay, I may have to

Can contractors attach mechanic liens automatically, without even seeing a judge?  From what I read the answer is yes, which can absolutely screw a homeowner if the job is done poorly.

Does anyone have insight on this?

Not only can contractors place a lien on the property , but a subcontractor who hasnt been paid , as well as the supplier of materials who hasnt been paid .  If the customer decides not to pay the contractor when due , a professional who has been in business a while doesnt hesitate to file a lien .  Now if you pay your contractor , and he doesnt pay the electrician , the electrician will file a lien against your property . Same when the contractor doesnt pay the supply house , they will file .
