Thoughts on Ashtabula?

Question

I grew up and am originally from the area (Lake County, specifically) so I know the region pretty well, however, Ashtabula is not a place I know much about. I'm possibly looking into buying some rentals there.

Does anyone currently have anything there and if so, how has it been working out for you? The only main concern is the future outlook because that city is kind of "out there" and not by too much :) I'm a little worried about it being hard to find decent renters or buyers 10 or 15 years down the road...obviously the city isn't going to disappear but I'm curious to see what others think (or have in that area).

I was looking at a mobile home park in that area 6 years ago. It was close to the lake and I think a huge park. The reason why I backed out is because the lack of population growth and just nothing out there.

You don't want to be owning something that will sit on the market for months.. If the numbers work out well you can hold it for a long time and be prepared to stomach when you want to sell

@Brian Dudash my family enjoys going up there every now and then during late spring-early fall. I too have been thinking about that area… every time I drive through it feels dead. Geneva on the lake is over there but it’s like a view into the 60s, until the boomers let go of it, not sure it’s a good area for another decade :/ I’m in Trumbull county if you ever want to meet up! I’m a new investor
