First-Time Investor – Is BPCon Worth It?

Hey everyone! 👋

I’m a first-time investor on a mission to buy my very first rental property this year and to build a 5+ portfolio over the next 6 years. I’ve been diving deep into the BiggerPockets forums, podcasts, Brandon Turner’s books, and basically soaking up everything I can right now.

I just found out about BPCon 2025 and I’m seriously considering going, but wanted to ask the community before I commit:

• Have you been to BPCon before?
• Was it actually worth it?
• Did you walk away with valuable connections, insights, or momentum?
• Would you recommend it for someone just getting started?

Hey Shyla!

I'm still early in the game myself, but I went to BPCon once and honestly it was one of the best decisions I made. It didn’t magically get me a deal, but the connections, mindset shift, and confidence I left with made a huge difference.

If you’re someone who thrives off learning in-person and wants to build long-term relationships with people in the same boat (or further ahead), it’s 100% worth considering. Especially if you’re investing out of state it’s a great place to meet agents, PMs, lenders, etc. from all over.

Whether any conference is worth it is ultimately up to the individual.

Will you learn anything earth shattering there? No. Will you learn some secret formula? Nope. Anything you learn there, you can find free in these forums.

But what makes conferences so powerful, is the ability to meet other people. You can meet people doing the things you want to do. you can meet people who may become people you do business with. You might make an incredible friend.

But you need to be very intentional in how you use your time at a conference. Make the most out of it. Meet people.

@Shyla Springmeyer  This will be my 4th BPCon.  I concentrate on the networking more than the learning since I've been doing this for over 40 years, but would not miss it.

This will be my 4th BPCon.   I like the smaller venues which I donot believe this will be.   Orlando was like we were cattle and I fear this will be similar.   Yet I will still be there

I find them to be motivational.   Networking with attendees, presenters, and vendors is a good opportunity.   The sessions can be educational.

I suspect you could get as much or more from a n appropriate accountability group.   Costs with hotel and travel are likely close to each other excluding the high cost accountability groups.

I recommend you attend at least one BPCon and Las Vegas is close to Los Angeles.  It is a convenient location for you.

There are cheaper ways to learn than attending BPCon . You won't learn anything earth shattering as conferences tend to focus on introductory topics that have mass appeal

The sessions are packed with practical strategies, and even more valuable are the people you meet — agents, lenders, investors, and other newbies just like you who could end up being partners, accountability buddies, or part of your long-term network. If you're planning to invest out of state (especially from a market like LA), it’s a great way to meet folks in cash-flow markets you might want to explore. For example, I moved from Portland to Columbus, Ohio back in 2020 and now own 10+ rentals here — and honestly, a lot of connections and insights from BP helped make that possible. Columbus is still super affordable (you can find deals in the $130K–$180K range that hit the 1% rule), and it's growing fast with companies like Intel, Amazon, Google, and Honda pouring billions into the area. If you do go to BPCon, be ready to take notes like crazy and don’t be afraid to introduce yourself — it’s a super welcoming community. Happy to connect and answer any questions you have!
