HOA Approval for House Hacking?

Has anyone experienced push back from their HOA regarding renting a room in their primary residence? Do you mind sharing your experience? If the HOA required you to obtain their approval, did you hire an attorney?

Our HOA by laws state that I cannot rent my primary residence, I must sell it in our community. But our By Laws do not state anything about renting a room in my primary residence while I live there.

@Tracy Scott

Scour the HOA docs for wording involving occupancy such as, "not more than three (3) persons not related by blood or marriage living and cooking together as a single housekeeping unit."
