We are also buy and hold investors. Our speciality is self-manage specifically long distance and local. We have done very well as buy and hold investors because we have been able to have tight tenant screening and a lease.
This is a great site because there are tons of different "Strategies". We are buy and hold, others are wholesalers, bird dog, flippers etc. Look around the blogs, forums and listen to the podcasts. If you see a post you enjoy check out the persons signature. Many of us including myself talk about our strategies, styles, niches and business model on our website. So definitely check that out as it is an amazing additional resource. For example, my blog is about while working full time, buy and hold investing, 0% Down Rentals, Personal Properties turned rentals, Long distancing investing, self-managing 3,000+ miles away.

We are buy and hold investors. I totally understand about operating on a small budget. We buy in central valley. Our goal is to retire in 15 years on the cash flow and Navy pension (God/Navy willing). We have bought fewer "higher income houses" but in areas where they exceed appreciation. This allows us to maintain our cash flow while still making money. We have done very well with short sales, foreclosures and self-managing. Those have been the "keys" for our success. We also own property all over the country. This is a great site because there are tons of different "Strategies" and an awesome place to network.
Another great place is to look around the blogs, forums and listen to the podcasts. If you see a post you enjoy check out the persons signature.
