Replacing a half wall...

Hi fellow investors!

I need some advice on a situation. I purchased my first home 15 years ago, and ended up having a half wall a.k.a divider taken out  by a friend due to my kids consonantly banging into it and getting hurt. I never realized at the time that we needed a permit to do that.

I'm I moved to out and would like to rent the place, and I know it will have to get a home inspection done as well as a change of occupancy notice. Should I replace the missing wall my before I contact the township?

I want to make things right and everything up to code. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
