About us
John grew up in a real estate family, both his grandfather and father had successful careers in commercial real estate business. He spent his summers coming to the Outer Banks to visit his grandparents in Duck and quickly fell in love with the area. After a few years selling commercial real estate in Virginia, John relocated to the Outer Banks in 2014. John and Katie have bought and sold many investment properties of their own on the Outer Banks, many of which they self managed on platforms such as Airbnb and VRBO. Katie was born and raised here on the Outer Banks and uses her background in interior design, along with her extensive knowledge of the area to help our clients narrow down their search to the best areas for them. Using our personal experience as a buyer and seller of our own investment properties, we will bring that expertise to help you buy and sell here on the Outer Banks. Our passion lies in helping investors analyze deals to find the property that works best for them and their situation - while also providing them with a network of vendors to utilize. Our lives revolve around real estate, whether working with clients, managing our own investments near and far, or designing a home - real estate is in our blood. When we are not working, you can find us and our daughter hanging at the beach, surfing, or traveling the world.

John Mausteller and the Mausteller team helped us purchase our dream beach home in Duck, NC. John assisted with virtual showings throughout the process, negotiated price as well as home inspection items. John was an outstanding realtor in every faucet of the process and would use him again to purchase in the Outer Banks.

John Mausteller was an absolute pleasure to work with for our first purchase in Nags Head in the Outer Banks! John helped my wife and I through the home buying process since this was our first time. Being that we were purchasing from out of state he went above and beyond to recommend local vendors & be on site when we could not be. What I admire most about John is his friendly demeanor that puts you at ease & his timely responsiveness. I wholeheartedly recommend working with John and the Mausteller team if you are thinking about purchasing a home/rental property in the OBX! He negotiated on our behalf and we were able to purchase for under asking. I look forward to working with John again!

He is an expert with second homes, investment properties as he owns many himself which is always helpful. Highly recommend John and his team!!

We worked with real estate agent John Mausteller when buying our home and I must say, he is the best agent we have ever worked with! We have bought and sold 4 homes over the years but working with John was very different. He worked so hard to market our home, was always available and we truly felt like he cared! Working with John was nothing but smooth sailing! He was more of a partner than anything when it came to purchasing our Outer Banks vacation home in Kitty Hawk. With his help, information, professionalism, and going above and beyond, we were able to purchase while living in Pennsylvania without seeing the house until the day we closed. He listened to what we were looking for and did a ton of work to make sure we had plenty of good information and video walkthroughs to go by. John made us comfortable and confident in our purchase. There is no one else that we will be using when buying or selling a house in the Outer Banks. I would recommend John to everyone who is looking for an easy process. Thank you again and again, John!

A goal of ours has been to buy a short term rental in the outer banks for the last few years. After finding John on bigger pockets everything seemed to click. His knowledge of the area, short term rentals and proactive approach helped us to reach our goal quickly after connecting with him. Within a few weeks of working together we had our first vacation rental under contract. Anytime we asked John to look into something for us he was one step ahead of us and already in the process. I highly recommend John for anyone looking in the Outer Banks. He even let us stay at one of his properties prior to closing.
