Can I use my LLC as the registered agent in MI?

Question

I'm going to form an LLC in Michigan (Let's call it My-MI-LLC). The LLC will have a real business address.

Can I use My-MI-LLC as the registered agent when filing with the state? Or does the RA must be a different entity then the business itself?

You need to setup the LLC and get a registered agent company (~$100-200/year) right away to be the registered agent.  This will also hide you name on public record.

Agency: Licensing and Regulatory Affairs

A resident agent and registered office must be included in the Articles of Organization. A resident agent is someone who is appointed by the company to receive any documents, notices, or demands served upon the company. The resident agent must be a Michigan resident, a Michigan corporation, a foreign corporation with a certificate of authority to transact business in Michigan, a Michigan limited liability company or a foreign limited liability company authorized to transact business in this state.

@Tzvi Keisar No it isn't. But you can put the person who is answering those calls and emails as it. Just call your SOS (secretary of state) they will explain it.

@Tzvi Keisar it can't be the business itself. The agent is who one would contact for lawsuits and other related issues.
