How to find an investor

How does one find an investor to back them, I have a very solid idea of what I want to do, but no capital. Need help and advice.

Then your best bet is to put together a solid business plan (including information on your background and what you bring to the table) OR find a great deal and get it under contract.  If you have a deal ready to go, figure out how much capital you need then start asking anybody and everybody (BP, local REIA, friends, family, etc.).  If you don't have a concrete deal with numbers to share, then you'll probably need a very well fleshed out business plan to get somebody to commit to funding future projects.

I have no problem being generous, and I am a proven contractor just need a little extra capital to bring things into fruition.

@Bradley Lee - Unfortunately an idea is only a very small piece of the puzzle.  Putting that idea into action is where many people fail.

The best way to attract an investor is with a proven track record.  In the absence of that, you either need a rich uncle or a very very well spelled out business plan.  Even then, you'll probably need to offer very generous terms to the investor because you're essentially asking them to pay for you to try it out.
