My goals for 2020. What are yours?

My goals for 2020. What are yours?

One the things I learned from BP that I love the most is the goal setting for the new year. My fiance and I started this last year and really enjoyed it, for not only personal goals but couple goals. So what is everyone's goals for the next year?

Mine are the following:

1. Read 52 books. I attempted this goal last year and really enjoyed it. I got to 30 which I was actually very happy with. It forced me to develop a skill and I learned a lot about different things in the process.

2. Purchase 2 more rental properties. I set the goal for last year to purchase one and was able to achieve this through a partnership. I want to use the stack method now and continue to grow my portfolio.

3. Run a marathon. I was able to run my first half last year, which was a big accomplish as I had never ran before. I signed up for a marathon, but did not train the way I need to so I did not attempted after receiving some advice that I could really injury myself. Very much looking forward to achieving this one.

4. Double my sales as an agent. This is similar to the stack method on the portfolio. I know that if I continue to increase my sales that it will allow me to other things like expand my portfolio.

5. Have at least one date a week with my fiance. We are in the early stages of wedding planning along with her starting a new career so we have every excuses as why to not make this happen. That is why this one is the most important to me. I must carve out time every week for her and make it my most important thing I do!

I can't wait to see what I learn as I pursue each of these goals! 2019 was a blast of a year and I can't wait to make 2020 even better. What is everyone else goals? Looking to learn a new skill? Add more properties to the portfolio? Or even just be more presence in every day?

@Jon Hill great post! I’m new ish here, had an account for awhile, but I think this is my first post. Been a long time bigger pockets podcast listener. Really cool seeing all the different goals out there, and good to see we’ve got a lot of runners in here!

    2020 Goals:

    1) Knock out the rest of my consumer debt so that I can start saving up for a property to house hack. Been working towards this for awhile. Just relocated to FL for a new job opportunity so had a little setback, but will hopefully be close to knocking it out by year end. This one is really important to me!

    2) Read 1 book per month..not a reader so this will be new.

    3) Get more involved in local market, including going to the local Investors monthly meeting (Central Florida). And of course being more active on here.

    4) I’m new in a management role at work so I’m still learning how to know when it’s best to delegate tasks to others in order to focus on more important roles to help us grow. So this will be a big focus.

    5) I currently have one rental out of state that is being managed by a great local property manager. I’m trying to build up a decent sized emergency fund for that house for peace of mind.

    6) Run a 50 miler in the mountains (either North GA or Colorado)

Happy New Year everyone and hope you crush your goals!

@Jaren Barnes. I hope she likes her present. I would NOT be happy if my wife signed me up for a marathon as a Christmas gift lol

@Jon Hill Best way to learn is to come down to San Diego. I see people taking lessons all the time at the beach. I heard you need 3-4 lessons to be able to stand up.

I don’t like to put my head under water so I didn’t take any lessons myself.

New guy here! This is my first post and I'm looking forward to many more in 2020. A few goals I set for 2020 include:

    1. By August 1st - Ride the Pan Mass Challenge (second year rider) at <200 lbs, down from ~245 lbs.

    2. Exceed my 2019 Pan Mass fundraising total of $6,500 by $500+.

    3. By September 30th - Run a half marathon with a sub 2 hour time

    4. Read a book a month at minimum, no excuses.

    5. Spend a few minutes daily on this site or reading about REI. Goals 4/5 can overlap. Develop an entry plan for REI. I'm late to the game with an established career and investment strategies already in place. I want REI to become a second arm of my investment strategy in 3-5 years.

Realistically, My goal is to simply purchase 1 or 2 more properties in April and to have them rented out by May. That will put me at 8 properties.

    Hey Jon!

Thanks for connecting with me, right now just assist with calls. Due to that I am working fulltime and working on transitioning into a fulltime realtor role, I currently have my VA follow up on calls that I have left vms for through Slybroadcast. And thank you so much, wishing you a prosperous 2020!

@James Carlson Love the goals! Congrats on the purchase. That is awesome. I think that is really cool about you wanting to become an employing broker. I have that as a long-term goal because I like you love being able to coach and help others. Pickle ball is an intense game! I have seen some people at my local gym who are way too good. The name pieces is really powerful. Everyone's favorite word in their language is their own name. I struggle with this as well, but it can have a huge impact! Best of luck with all of the goals!

@Jon Hill Loved your goals, too, especially date night. Gotta set priorities for the ones we love. If that falls apart, a lot of other things go by the wayside. And congrats on the engagement! Been married now for four years (and to my business partner, no less).

If I'm ever up in Firestone, I'll buy you a beer. Cheers!

Thanks for starting this thread @Jon Hill! Every New Year's eve my husband and I sit down and review the goals that we set for the previous year and then create new ones for the coming year. This year we included some goals/plans for our primary residence (turn basement into apartment, rebuild decks, design and build front porch), some personal goals (establish and maintain a healthy eating plan, go to the gym at least twice per week, read and discuss 6 books, one book is to be chosen by our partner), and business goals (find an accountant, analyze present loans and refinance if it makes sense, add 20 doors to our portfolio). We try to make SMART goals, but the items I listed are the gist of what we have set out to achieve in 2020. Good luck everyone!

@Kim Vandermark Those are some awesome goals. My fiancé and I actually just finished our couple goals this past Monday. We started it last year and really enjoy it. I think the book piece and allowing the other to pick one is very powerful and I am sure it helps a ton with accountability. Best of luck on the goals!!!

    1. Sell current primary residence.

    2. Close on new build (smaller, cheaper, long story but we are happy with it).

    3. Attend as many REIA and other meetups as possible.

    4. Continue shopping around for my "Core Four".

    5. Develop my criteria for what I want in a property.

    6. Get pre-approved (after we close on the new mortgage for new primary residence).

    7. Evaluate one deal a day, offering on those that make sense and sticking to the numbers that work.

    8. Close on first investment property by the end of the year.

    9. Read 12 books.

    10. Weigh 190 at end of year.

@Sean Tagge Those are some awesome goals. Obtainable yet challenging. Do you have a plan in mind for the hiring process?

Hey @Jon Hill thanks. ya really goal #3 comes first for us to accomplish goal #1. Big key has been the acquisitions manager which we got one on board already.

    Hiring process

Write out a job description, 5 main job duties, common tasks to accomplish, etc.

Put it up on ZipRecruiter then I have my VA scan the candidates then I interview top 3-10 then if I like them I send the top 1-2 for my partners to interview.

@Sean Tagge That is awesome. Do you aim for more experience or work ethic? Or more of a combination of both?
