Thinking of starting a home inspection LLC any advice?

I’m thinking of a career change that will help me in the long run with real estate investments. I come from a construction background and have many friends/family that are agents and brokers. I’m located on the Mississippi gulf coast and real estate is booming so I want to get in as soon as possible. Please if there are any licensed inspectors on here I would really appreciate some feedback and advice.

Hi Tyler. With a construction background, becoming a home inspector may be a good fit. First steps would be to look into getting your license, which will likely require hours of training as well. Whatever you do make sure you don't get one of those canned cut & paste report packages. We have seen & experienced many Home Insp., reports & I have personally only ever used one guy to do our pre-buy inspections.

An inspection was done this year for my daughter & it was fraught with errors. We went there & checked all the 'serious deficiencies' & many were minor. HVAC & pool heater 'failures' were reported complete with the retail replacement costs, along with someone they knew who could do the work. Yet they only required PM which we had done by companies we found. We also found some obvious deficiencies he completely missed or lacked the understanding of.

@Barry Cohen thank you for your response. I have looked into two companies to start with. Internachi and AHIT. I have noticed they both offer courses and help getting started but require a membership. Are you a member of one of these companies or anything similar? I have looked into what is needed to get started but my major concern is being knowledgeable enough to be successful. I’m not really looking into working for someone else or a company because I’ve been working for other people for 15 years and I’m just ready to make my own path at this point.
