Credit Report Question - Getting started on house buying process

Rai Ud
Posted

I found a first time homebuyer checklist which mentions that checking the accuracy of one's credit report is the first step to buying a house.

I requested my credit report from all three bureaus and noticed some inaccurate information on each report (each report had difference inaccurate information). Things like a misspelled name, an 'other' middle initial that isn't mine, an old address listed as my current address, etc. I also noticed that my credit card company only reported that I only paid the minimum due each month even when I paid more (I'm not sure if this is a standard reporting practice or if it's something I need to dispute).

I want to make sure that I won't run into any hiccups in my home buying process because of my credit report, but my question here is...are any of the issues listed above worth disputing with the credit bureaus before I start talking to a realtor/lender or do I only need to dispute information if I see big red flags, such as unrecognized credit card accounts or inaccurate delinquent accounts?

I'm very new to this whole process and I haven't been able to find much helpful information after many hours of searching though Google.
