Do I need a contractor for permits?

Hi Everyone! We're pulling permits for work on the home and it says I need a primary contractor on record. We want to do the work ourselves. Has anyone had to deal with this before? How did you navigate it?

@Stephanie Barthelemy In most but not all areas, if you are an Owner Occupant, and will be for at least a year, you can pull a general permit as the owner.  Otherwise, you have to have a licensed gc.
