Hello everyone,

I have been interested in becoming a real estate investor for a while, but I do not know how to start. I have a friend from Missouri (where I used to live) who recently bought his first investment property, so I called him to ask him a bunch of questions. He told me about the BRRRR method and told me to check out BiggerPockets. I came to the BP site, registered for a webinar, signed up for the pro membership, started watching videos, and analyze some properties with the tools.

I don't quite feel ready to start investing because I have spent my whole adult life thinking that I have to use my own money to invest, but after watching a bunch of BP videos it seems like using a BRRRR strategy with hard money lenders is a great way for me to get started. If there are other methods that may be more appropriate for me, I am open to suggestions, but I'm just trying to pick a plan and stick to it. So if I go with the BRRRR strategy, then it seems like my first step is building relationships with all of you! I need a network of wholesalers, lenders, contractors, and most importantly to me, a mentor. According to all of the advice from the many BP videos I've watched, it seems like the best way to start building these relationships is to attend real estate events and reach out here, so that's what I'm doing.  With all of that context, here are my questions.

How do I find meetups and events to connect with all of you?  And how might I find a mentor?

@Dave Gillie I second @Cheryl Packham. Get thee to the AZREIA monthly meeting in Tucson. The next one is Oct 11. They are $20. https://azreia.org/event/azrei...

Just listen and learn for a few months.  Walk around and talk to people.  Hear what’s on people’s minds during the needs/wants portion of the meeting.

Good luck!
