First REI meeting, what should I expect?

Hi all!

I am going to my first REI meeting tonight here in the San Fernando Valley, specifically Studio City.

What should I expect?

Any major tips you have for a newcomer at a REI meeting?

Lucky you! Are you planning to focus your investments in Van Nuys? My first apartment after running away from home to win an Oscar was right by Van Nuys Blvd and Sherman Way. I hated it. Since then, I've come to believe that area is totally ripe for real estate investing. Good luck!

A tip? Enjoy yourself. Committing yourself to enjoying a foreign environment is a sure way to draw opportunity in.

@Jeff Greenberg it is Invest Club for Women. I know there are some BP people who go to those meetings, and I definitely will keep my credit card at home!

@Michelle Ferrand  What is the name of the REIC.  If it is one of the FIBI clubs, you are safe from sales.  Lookup FIBI in meetup.com for other clubs.

If it is not an FIBI you may want to leave you credit card at home.

My current interest is in buy & hold out of state @Eric Belgau (thanks for the tip as well!). I live in an apartment fairly close to Van Nuys and Sherman Way...it isn't too bad ;) As for investing in the San Fernando Valley, there are some deals here, but from my research they are better for doing flips.

@Brian Listy I am expecting it to be at least a little bit of sales, but hopefully it will turn out to be a great networking opportunity!

I will be attending my first REIA meeting in a few weeks and I'm just not sure what to expect. One thing I know for sure, I have been to the big up sale seminars and I really hope that I don't experience anything like that at the REIA.

Be confident, friendly  and self assured when you are meeting people. The first question I hear a lot is "what is your niche?" so it helps if you have a definite answer.
