OBX inland STR

Hey, I recently relocated to SW Virginia so I'm now about a 5 hour drive to the northern outer banks, which is a place we love. I want to explore the options of getting a STR out there, but I'm no big shot investor. We are taking a Labor Day trip and staying a couple nights in Grandy, which is on the other side of the sound from the main OBX locations (Duck, Corolla, Kitty Hawk, Nags Head, etc.). Where are some places we can go explore in that area you've had success in? Or do you really need to be right in the main drag to turn a profit? My thought is, hopefully, I can get something a little nicer or slightly cheaper by being a 20 to 30 minute drive to Bodie island. I've also heard about some erosion issues in parts of the outer banks that I'd rather avoid. Any help, advice, or contacts to help make something happen would be well-received, thanks!

I'm not an expert but I would be cautious. From what I've gathered demand is down a bit and so if you are even further from the actual beaches I could see you not getting enough occupancy.  Add to this its very seasonal, most places struggle to get any occupancy during the winter.

If you want to discuss the Virginia Beach Norfolk area shoot me a message, there some opportunities here.
