How to get started with investing (and BP)

Question

Hi,I have been around real estate for a while, and know a bit about it, but I am wondering what the best resource on bigger pockets is for someone like me:- Generally inexperienced- Live in Los Angeles- Have some money in the bank- No jobWhat guides / where on this website would you recommend I start?

Hey Willy, I’d recommend checking out the BiggerPockets Real Estate Podcast and some of their books. Both do a great job of breaking things down in a practical, beginner friendly way. You might also want to look into local meetups to connect with other investors and hear what’s working in your area.

I work with a lot of investors from California who look out of state due to the high entry costs locally. While out of state investing isn’t always seamless, it’s definitely doable if you build the right team, such as a solid agent, property manager, and contractor, who make all the difference.

I would focus on the income part first. If you like real estate there is different fields you can get into to earn $$ and learn. Once you have the income part squared away I would research doing a house hack and start with that.

Think about why you want to invest in real estate. Set a goal and assess your time, energy, and financial resources. Let those guide your daily actions to move you closer to your goal. Listen to the BP podcast from the last year and read recent books from the last year. These will give you some ideas of what the options are for making money with real estate. Everyone's path is different, there will be risks, and long term rewards.

Hey, Willy! Glad you are interested in getting started in real estate. My go-to would be to listen to as many of the podcasts BP puts out. The BP podcast, the Real Estate Rookie Podcast, and On the Market are my favorites. At the same time, I would dive into the forums asking questions about things you are curious about. While you are building up your education, I would find a job that allows you to grind and stack cash. If that is in real estate, great; if not, that's perfectly fine. Having a solid foundation of education topped with the capital to invest, I think you will be off to the races! Much luck! If you have any questions, don't hesitate to reach out!
