Moving on up! Do not be afraid to reach out to others

Hey BP!

I'm stoked and I just have to share the news. I just got off the phone with the owner of a RE investing/construction company who gladly accepted to show me the ropes of his business! I think I may have just landed my first mentor. One funny thing is, I started rambling about a duplex that caught my eye and how it could be a great monthly income generator if rented out only for him to say, "We only do flips, for now." What is even more great is that he offered to show me some of the houses that he is working on flipping right now. Also, that if I have any suggestions on homes to flip that he ends up purchasing, he will cut me in on a slice of the profits!

For anybody trying to get their feet wet, do not be afraid to get in contact with people in your area. You will be surprised what others are willing to do for you.

Congrats Devin :) I did the same in my area. Sounds like you are off to a great start. May I make a suggestion? I think I saw this on one of the mod's blog posts and it was dead on - try to offer your mentor something in exchange. What are you good at that you can offer him?

In my case, my mentor/partner in distressed, owner financed houses is already very successful, but most of his business is on the ground in my city. I have been able to locate investors for him online, and also market his business with my writing skills. He helps me, and I help him. That's a good way to have a great long term partnership/mentorship.
