Wholesalers in Illinois

So I was advised by an MLO, that in Illinois it is illegal to write out a contract to purchase a property without having my real estate license. Can any investors in Illinois confirm or deny this? (I will not hold anyone legally responsible for this advice and will fact check myself, I just wanted to ask the community first.)
