College Student interested in REI

Hey everyone I'm 22 years old and currently attending college. I would love to buy and rent out homes as soon as possible. If anybody has any tips or advice for REI at a young age I would appreciate it.

How do I get started buying homes at a young age?

Would you recommend becoming a real estate agent?

@Ray Rodarte,

I got my start in college.  I bought a condo a few miles away from a large public university and lived there for 3 years.  There were 4 bedrooms total, so I lived in one and rented the other 3 out - even just renting 3, I had positive cash flow after expenses of about $50/mo.

You definitely need to do your research. Look at properties for sale in your area. Study rents. Read BiggerPockets. Attend REIA events.

But there's also no substitute for experience.  I'd try to sync up with a mentor or someone who has vastly more knowledge in the real estate investing arena.  Offer to help them as an unpaid internship or apprenticeship.  You'll learn a lot that way.

Good luck!
